Janjaem Suwannapheng, Thitisan Panmod and Wijan Ponlid received their awards at the Thailand National Sports Day

The Thailand Sports Authority hosted its National Sports Day at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok and the best athletes, coaches and officials received their trophies following their outstanding performance in 2023.

Thailand earned three silver and four bronze medals in the boxing event of the Asian Games in Hangzhou and the country secured four spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Chuthamat Raksat (women’s 50kg), Thananya Somnuek (women’s 60kg), Janjaem Suwannapheng (women’s 66kg) and Thitisan Panmod (men’s 51kg) all qualified for the Olympic Games through the Asian Games.

Mr. Wijan Ponlid is a national icon in Thailand’s boxing and he became the Most Outstanding Amateur Boxing Coach in the Year of 2023. He earned a gold medal as a boxer at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and as a coach, his pupils impressed in the international stage of boxing in 2023.

Janjaem Suwannapheng earned a silver medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championships and she repeated that performance also at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. The 22-year-old welterweight (66kg) boxer qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with her result in China and she was named as the Best Female Boxer in Thailand.

Thitisan Panmod qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games but due to his injury, he was unable to box in Japan two and half years ago. The 23-year-old boxer recovered and he returned with a silver medal at the Asian Games where he lost to only Uzbekistan’s Olympic Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov in the final. Thitisan Panmod was the best male boxer in Thailand in 2023 and he was awarded the trophy during the National Sports Day. Thailand’s best boxers are in a training camp in Yangiabad, Uzbekistan these days to do their physical preparations. Their team will compete at the upcoming Boxam International Tournament in La Nucia, Spain in the end of this month.
