Iraq and South Africa won contests at the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament on Day2

Twenty contests featured in the official program at the 23rd edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament started in the city of Kostanay, North Kazakhstan on Day2. Kazakhstan’s Islam Mashkentayev had a brilliant success in the second day of boxing but Iraq and South Africa both were also on the winning side.

Altogether 108 boxers are participating in the new edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in Kostanay. The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is a strong men’s youth international competition, which was named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov.

The head of the local organizers, Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt arranged all of the tournament programs and details and she is the engine of Kostanay’s boxing. Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, are eligible to participate in the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

Ruslan Kulymbekov won his first contest on Day1 but he had to meet a more experienced boxer, the silver medallist from the last edition, Uslam Seksenbayev in the quarter-finals of the flyweight (51kg). Seksenbayev, who lives and trains in the city of Abai won all of the three rounds in each of the scorecard and he joined the last four as first in Kostanay.

Abbas Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray is a new talent in Iraq’s youth national team who has strong family connection to our sport. His elder brother Ali Qasim Hamdan Al-Sarray earned a silver medal at the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and Abbas continued the traditions in Kostanay to beat Kazakhstan’s Alshakur Kanatov at the flyweight (51kg).

Yemen’s Abdulaziz Ali Ahmed Al-Ahdal eliminated his Kazakh rival on Day1 which was a historic success for the country at the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament. Yemen’s new pride was not able to repeat his performance within a short period of time and he lost to Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar-based Islam Mashkentayev.

Shymkent’s Bek Zholdasbek eliminated a local boxer, Ivan Tkach winning two out of the three rounds on the judges’ scorecards. Uzbekistan’s Sunnatillo Uktamaliyev proved the next remarkable performance at the featherweight (57kg) on Day2, he had a comfortable victory over Kazakhstan’s Almaty-based Bekzat Musakhan.

South Africa sent a team to the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament for the very first time short after their Youth National Championships. Zandile Mathebula, the African Region V Youth Games silver medallist, not only defeated Kazakhstan’s Temirlan Baimbetov but he stopped his opponent in the third round of the light welterweight (63.5kg).

Nurzhan Duman, from the Karagandy region, represented Kazakhstan at the heavyweight (92kg) in the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships. He is only 18 this year but he had the strong experience to dominate his fights in Kostanay where he opened his campaign with a quick success over Yerassyl Alimzhanov.
