India’s Manoj Kumar celebrated his birthday with a success but the Gujarat Giants defeated the Punjab Panthers in the Big Bout League
The eighth day of boxing was held in the Indian Big Bout Boxing League between the Punjab Panthers and the Gujarat Giants. Six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte won her contests for the Punjab Panthers but the whole match was bagged by the Gujarat Giants.
Big Bout is the official name of the Indian Boxing League which is a new program of the Boxing Federation of India which will be closing the busy year of 2019. Boxing Federation of India covered all costs for the boxers including flight tickets, accommodation, meals and local transportation, furthermore strong money prizes for the boxers. The competition period of the League is from December 2 until December 21 which is open for top foreign boxers as well.
India’s World Military Games bronze medallist Chirag is a newcomer in the international events this year and delivered the biggest surprise of the day when he defeated Uzbekistan’s Youth Olympic Games winner Abdumalik Khalakov. Gujarat’s second success was achieved by ASBC Asian Boxing Championships silver medallist Ashish Kumar who defeated Punjab’s Mohit at the middleweight (75kg).
AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Amit Panghal defeated his tough teammate Polipalli Lalitha Prasad at the men’s flyweight (52kg) controlling all of the rounds. Six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte earned Punjab’s first success in the match after beating Rajesh Narwal unanimously at the female flyweight (51kg).
Following Mary Kom’s success, former Commonwealth Games winner veteran Manoj Kumar celebrated his 33rd birthday with a success over Duryodhan Singh Negi at the welterweight (69kg). Gujarat’s girls as former AIBA Women’s World Champion veteran Sarita Devi Laishram and 17-year-old ASBC Asian Youth Champion Poonam secured their franchise’s final 5-2 success over the Punjab Panthers.
