India selected seven strong male boxers to the Asian Games
The management of the Boxing Federation of India selected the men’s team for the upcoming Asian Games which will be taking place in Hangzhou, China from September 23. The seven-strong team is aiming for medals, titles and Olympic spots in the boxing tournament of the Asian Games which will start with its first competition day on September 24.
The Indian male boxers performed strongly in the recent World Boxing Championships, ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and the last editions of the huge multisport events as the Asian Games, South Asian Games and Olympic Games.
The Indians are one of the key nations in the Asian continent and their team is under full preparation for the Games and the new international training camp will be coming soon with the participation of several top countries.
Deepak Bhoria is a smart boxer, he has several years of international experiences, claimed medals in the major championships as well but he had a strong local rival, Amit Panghal in the recent years. The Indian management selected Deepak Bhoria this time to represent the country at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Hangzhou.
India’s new featherweight (57kg) star could be the 20-year-old Sachin Siwach, the Youth World Champion, who has the fantastic technical skills to be one of the sensations of the upcoming Asian Games. India’s previous star in this weight class was Mohammed Hussamuddin, the World Boxing Championships bronze medallist, but the selectors decided to give chance to the younger hope in Hangzhou.
India’s Shiva Thapa is a legend in our sport, he claimed record-breaking medals in the last six editions of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022. The light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer represented India at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games and he is aiming for the third spot for Paris 2024.
Nishant Dev earned a bronze medal at the 2023 World Boxing Championships and the 23-year-old boxer will compete at the light middleweight (71kg) with strong medal hopes in the Asian Games. Lakshay Chahar is a young hope at the light heavyweight (80kg) who shined in the youth and U22 competitions in the recent years.
Sanjeet is India’s best heavyweight (92kg) boxer who earned a gold medal at the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Dubai and he has five years of international experiences. Narender Berwal, the quarter-finalist from the World Boxing Championships, will represent India at the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Hangzhou.
