Impressive youth finals in the Vietnam Nationals

The Vietnam Boxing Federation’s next competition, the Youth-Junior-Schoolboys-Schoolgirls National Championships took place in Ho Chi Minh City. The youth finals delivered several top bouts and the winners in the smaller weight classes can expect strong international outcomes in the future.

Ho Chi Minh City was the host of the 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships, which generated a big boxing development in the country. The last edition of the Vietnam Youth-Junior-Schoolboys-Schoolgirls National Championships took place in the Dak Lak province on July 2022 and 423 boxers competed for the titles. The number of the participants were even more in 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City where the total number of bouts was 449.

Boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, were eligible to participate in the youth part of the competition. All of the regions of Vietnam, armed squads and their main cities such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Hoa Dinh, the Army team and Ho Chi Minh City competed in the event with the best talents.

The women boxers earned several top international results in the smaller weight classes and their new youth hopes such as Army’s Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung (45kg), Hanoi’s Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi (48kg) and Song Thi Kim Ngan (50kg) all have the potential to win international tournaments in the near future. All of the three female talents won their finals unanimously and controlled their weight classes in Ho Chi Minh City.

Quang Thi Nhung not only dominated her women’s bantamweight (54kg) final against Vo Thi Minh Thi but she stopped her opponent in the third round. Nguyen Thi Mai had strong pedigree from previous national events and she had the stamina to beat Bui Thi Thuy at the women’s featherweight (57kg).

Huynh Thi Vu Duyen had a tight final against Pham Thi Tam but she succeeded at the lightweight (60kg) due to her physical condition. Huynh Thi Nhu Y won the closest female finals in the youth national event, she had a 3:2 split decision success over Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang at the light welterweight (63kg).

Dao Van Cam (46kg) and Can Minh Thai (48kg) both defeated their opponents from Ho Chi Minh City and took the titles of the smaller male weight classes. Phan Quang Tuan had a narrow success over Lang Van Vuong at the men’s youth flyweight (51kg) while further notable winners were Truong Van Vinh (57kg), Ngo Quang Truong (63.5kg) and Nguyen Huynh Nhat Linh (67kg). Nguyen Tien Thanh closed the competition with a KO success over Huynh Minh Tuan at the super heavyweight (+92kg).
