Ten Chinese gold and Singaporean heroes in the Hong Kong City Cup
The Hong Kong City Cup has finished in the busy metropolis which event was the first big Asian international event in 2016. This is a new event in the Asian boxing map which was hosted by the Hong Kong Boxing Association only second time after launching the competition in 2015.
Host of the competition Hong Kong could not get any gold medals on home soil but their boxers could raise their experiences. China bagged ten gold medals in the Hong Kong City Cup which event was organised for the women elite, women youth, men elite and men youth boxers in the modern metropolis.
The first gold medal was achieved by Pan Sumei of China who won the Women’s Youth Bantamweight class (54 kg) after beating Chinese Taipei’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Lo Ching Ting in the final which was a small surprise in the Hong Kong City Cup.
Among the youth men boxers Hong Chuan Hsun of Chinese Taipei and his teammate Lee Sen Ta defeated their rivals such as Harvey Jay Santos of Macau and Rehaan Lulla of Hong Kong which triumphs delivered to them gold medal in the event. The third gold medal in the men’s youth level was acquired by China’s Liu Jiajia who was too smart for Singapore’s Dhinesh Kumar in the Light Welterweight class (64 kg).
Macau sent boxers to the competition but Singapore was even more successful in the Hong Kong City Cup. Efasha Kamarudin delivered Singapore’s first ever gold medal in a women international event. The Southeast Asian Games competitor Singaporean defeated Hong Kong’s Lau Ching Ching in the final of the event while his teammate Youth Olympian Mohammad Hanurdeen Bin Hamid won their second gold medal at the Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg).
China’s Chen Xiaoling changed her last year’s medal into gold following her success over Chinese Taipei’s Chu Ju Chieh at the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg). Her teammate Li Zijun also defeated a rival from Chinese Taipei, Wu Shih Yi who attended in several international events in spite of her age. Chinese Taipei’s lone gold medal in the women competition was delivered by Chin Chuan Huei at the Light Flyweight class (48 kg).
China’s first gold medal in the men’s elite level was achieved by Wen Zifeng who defeated Macau’s Tam Wai Chon in the final of the Light Flyweight class (49 kg). Juang Yungpeng defeated Singapore’s Leong Jun Hao in the gold medal of the Light Welterweight class (64 kg) which was one of the best bout of the Hong Kong City Cup while another Chinese boxer Guo Yingjie was able to win his second gold in the history of the event.
