Hasanboy Dusmatov and the stars advanced to the semi-finals of the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships
The Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships is running in the historical city of Samarkand and the competition is turned to its medal phase after the preliminaries. Rio 2016 Olympic Games winner Hasanboy Dusmatov and their further stars as Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov, Ikboljon Kholdarov and returning Rustam Tulaganov advanced to the semi-finals in Samarkand.
Uzbekistan topped the team rankings of the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games this August with their five gold medals and the country is ready to continue their strong results in 2019. The Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships is a selection competition for the next season of the World Series Boxing and for the ASBC and AIBA events.
The men boxers attend in the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in the new eight weight categories as follows: 52kg, 57kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg.Altogether a total of 264 men’s elite athletes are attending in the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships in Samarkand.
Uzbekistan’s and the city of Andizhan’s pride Rio 2016 Olympic Games winner and Val Barker Trophy winner Hasanboy Dusmatov moved up to the flyweight (52kg) in the recent months. The two-time ASBC Asian Champion boxer had to meet in the quarter-finals with a dangerous opponent WSB hope Mironshokh Ibragimov but Dusmatov was able to work from close distance successfully. Experienced Abrorjon Kodirov, Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov and Indian Open Tournament winner 19-year-old Khudoynazar Fayzov also advanced to the semi-finals at the flyweight (52kg).
Ferghana’s Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov impressed in the whole year and won the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games which was his fist major event during his career. The 23-year-old boxer was too strong for Bukhara’s Mukhriddin Bakoyev in the quarter-finals and advanced to the last four in Samarkand. Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov and Otabek Kholmatov are expected to get through also to the semi-finals while the fourth boxer will be Khasanjon Turakeldiyev who shocked Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Sulaymon Latipov in the quarter-finals.
The light welterweight (63kg) is one of the most popular categories in Samarkand with the participation of 48 athletes. Bukhara’s Shukurjon Rakhimov, Tashkent region’s former AIBA Junior World Champion Aliyor Noraliyev, Jakarta 2018 Asian Games silver medallist Shunkor Abdurasulov and Andizhan’s Kamronbek Eshmatov remained their chance alive to win the gold medal in this division.
The welterweight (69kg) is one of the strongest ones in the Uzbekistan National Boxing Championships where Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Ikboljon Kholdarov, Fazliddin Meliboev, Asian Games winner Bobo-Usmon Baturov and ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist 18-year-old Jakhongir Rakhmonov are advanced to the semi-finals.
Finalists of the 2017 edition at the middleweight (75kg) as titleholder Akmurod Gafforov and Samarkand’s Fanat Kakhramonov are in the semi-finals of the category following their strong victories in the last eight. The new waves of the light heavyweight (81kg) such as AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships silver medallist Dilshodbek Ruzmetov and Ferghana’s 21-year-old Kozimbek Mardonov are advanced to the last four.
Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Rustam Tulaganov of Tashkent returned to the world of boxing and besides to his three younger rivals, he is also advanced to the semi-finals of the heavyweight (91kg). The titleholder of the super heavyweight (+91kg) 19-year-old Lazizbek Mullajonov of Ferghana lost his quarter-final bout to experienced Mirzokhidjon Abdullaev. Ulugbek Mubinov, ASBC Asian Youth Champion Obidjon Tokhirov and Rustamjon Ismoilov are still in the last four in the heaviest category.
