Fourteen Asian triumphs in the opening day of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships

The first competition day was held in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest where two sessions were scheduled with 34 bouts in the official program. The Asian women and men boxers shined and dominated the first competition day in the Duna Arena securing 14 triumphs.
Japan’s Ryo Mandokoro lost his quarter-final contest in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok but he was more aggressive in his opening contest in Budapest against Sri Lanka’s Kavinda Samutun Mudiyanselage. The lone Sri Lankan boxer in the whole AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships used his close distance tactic but he Japanese boxer’s combinations were better in their light flyweight (49kg) bout.
India’s Barun Singh Shagolshem won the gold medal at the Golden Gloves of Vojvodina Youth Tournament just before the start of the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. The 18-year-old Indian light flyweight (49kg) boxer launched only multiple combinations in his opening bout against Italy’s Massimo Spada. The Indian talent was effective in the bout and won the contest by unanimous decision in Budapest.
Thailand’s two-time ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Peerapat Yeasungnoen is an experienced welterweight (69kg) boxer not only in our continent but in the globe as well. The 18-year-old Thai boxer tried to rule the middle of the ring against Trinidad & Tobago’s Tyron Thomas and he was able to deliver the better punches in their difficult contest.
Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Nuradin Rustambek Uulu tried to use his distance against Japan’s Sho Patrick Usami in the first round of their welterweight (69kg) contest. The 18-year-old Japanese boxer, who has got Canadian roots, turned up the heat from the second and his efforts were enough to win the bout by split decision.
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Yermakhan Zhakpekov spent only a short time in the ring against Puerto Rico’s Mariomar Morales when the referee stopped their unequal bout in the second round. The 18-year-old Kazakh boxer proved he is one of the main gold medal contenders of the men’s welterweight (69kg) in Budapest. Another top Asian welterweight (69kg) boxer Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Rakhmonov dominated his fight against Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita.
Mongolia’s Children of Asia Games winner Khongorzul Delgerkhangai was faster than Nepal’s Kusum Tamang in the first preliminary round of the featherweight (57kg) and won the bout by unanimous decision. Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Panpatchara Somnuek eliminated a top rival in the same category Ireland’s Dearbhla Rooney in a fantastic contest.
Japan’s AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sena Irie is a star boxer in the youth level who impressed with her confident style in the opening preliminary round of the women’s featherweight (57kg). The 18-year-old Japanese boxer eliminated a tough European rival, England’s EUBC European Women’s Junior Champion Elise Glynn in Budapest which was a perfect opening from Irie.
India’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Bhavesh Kattimani was amazing in the first round against Ukraine’s Yuriy Tomiuk in their men’s flyweight (52kg) contest. The Ukrainian boxer used his height more in the second round and tried to keep his Indian opponent long. The 17-year-old Kattimani also increased his rhythm still in time and his hand was raised after the final gong.
Kazakhstan’s Karim Serkebayev received the right to box in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in June when he received an additional quota. Serkebayev met in the first preliminary round with Ecuador’s Luis Delgado and he used his height advantage well enough. The 17-year-old Kazakh flyweight (52kg) boxer was not enough shape in the final round but his advantage was enough to eliminate his Ecuadorian rival.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Sukthet Sarawut outpointed Uganda’s Youth National Champion Reagan Musoke and advanced to the next round of the men’s flyweight (52kg). Another tough Asian hope Philippines’ Milenino Anduyan used his stamina to beat Hungary’s Tamas Borsos in Budapest. The next Asian winner in this category was 2017 ASBC Asian Youth Champion Samandar Kholmurodov of Uzbekistan who was in different level than Puerto Rico’s Chris Echevarria.
