Four Olympians strengthen the Uzbek female team in Chiang Mai

Uzbekistan will send eleven female boxers to the forthcoming ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships which will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from November 28 and will be lasting until December 12.

The Uzbek girls achieved one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman and their best youth and U22 talents also impressed in many of the championships.

Four of their female boxers have qualified for the Paris Olympics and their current female team is young but well-experienced in the international stage. Mr. Elshod Rasulov will be supported by Mr. Timur Akhbayev, Mr. Ziyatdin Toygonbayev and Mr. Islom Tadjibayev in the coaching staff.

The ASBC Asian U22 Champion Farzona Fozilova earned medals in almost all of her competitions since 2021 and she is one of the favourites at the women’s minimumweight (48kg). The small light flyweight (50kg) star, Sabina Bobokulova qualified for the Paris Olympics and the 21-year-old energetic boxer defeated almost all of her Asian rivals in the recent one year.

The ASBC Asian U22 Champion Feruza Kazakova is also from the 2003 age group as Fozilova and Bobokulova and has strong chance at the flyweight (50kg). Aziza Yokubova is one of the veterans in the national team but she was the first Uzbek female boxer who earned a medal in a Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2022.

The Paris Olympian and multiple Asian Champion Nigina Uktamova is another ace in their women’s national team who moved up to the featherweight (57kg). The Olympian Sitora Turdibekova was gold medallist in the 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships at the age of 19 and she is moved up to the lightweight (60kg) for this event.

Dilfuza Bekova was member of the youth, U22 and elite team in 2021 and in 2022 but after her hard training sessions, she regained her place in the squad. The Olympic quarter-finalist Navbakhor Khamidova is the defending ASBC Asian Elite Champion at the women’s welterweight (66kg) and she will travel to Chiang Mai to keep her title.

The Youth World silver medallist Aziza Zokirova was born in a boxing family and the 20-year-old youngster is a strong competitor at the women’s middleweight (75kg). Sokhiba Ruzmetova (81kg) and the 19-year-old Oltinoy Sotimboyeva (+81kg) are their hopefuls in the heaviest weight classes.
