Former World Champions strengthen Team Kazakhstan in the upcoming IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships
The IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be the next big highlight for the best female boxers in the whole globe. One of the top teams, Kazakhstan selected fantastic boxers to the event, their team contains previous AIBA Women’s World Champions and several ASBC Asian Champions.
The new 12th edition of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will take place in Istanbul, Turkey on May 6-21. Boxers who were born between 1981 and 2002 are eligible to attend in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. The event was postponed from December 2021 therefore the age groups of the competition relates to last year’s ages.
The competition period of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships is May 9-20. The finals of the main female event of the year have divided into two parts to attract the crowd and the media. The IBA Congress will take place on May 13-14 in Istanbul, and on those days, only evening sessions are in the official program of the competition. The Sinan Erdem Dome will be the competition venue which has the capacity of 16,000 seats.
The first Women’s World Boxing Championships featured in Scranton, United States in 2001 following the female part of the sport officially approved. Ten further editions were held in Antalya, Podolsk, New Delhi twice, Ningbo, Bridgetown, Qinhuangdao, Jeju, Astana, and Ulan-Ude. The last edition of the Women’s World Boxing Championships took place in Ulan-Ude, Russia on October 2019.
Kazakhstan selected a strong team to compete in the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul. Their female squad won the team rankings of the last edition of the ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships winning eight gold medals. Following their National Championships, the Kazakh female boxers competed at the Strandja Memorial Tournament with successes.
Nazym Kyzaibay won the title of the light flyweight twice in 2014 and in 2016 but following that she had difficulties in the main championships. The 29-year-old boxer returned to her best category and she used her virtuoso technical skills to take the gold medal at the Strandja Memorial Tournament. Kyzaibay is aiming for her third World Championships’ title in Istanbul where her chances to accomplish her goals are high.
Dina Zholaman is also an experienced boxer, World Champion from 2016, and she is the last year’s ASBC Asian Champion. The 30-year-old bantamweight (54kg) boxer is one of the medal contenders in the upcoming IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Her teammate Valentina Khalzova also won the gold medal at the 2016 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana and returned to the national team two and half years ago.
Kazakhstan’s fourth AIBA Women’s World Champion in their current national team is the 35-year-old Lazzat Kungeibayeva, a big puncher at the heavyweight (+81kg). Zhaina Shekerbekova achieved silver medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and she also returned to the national team and will represents Team Kazakhstan at the flyweight (52kg). Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Dariga Shakimova moved back to her best welterweight (66kg) and she is also in top form this year.
Rimma Volosenko finally achieved her first big title one year ago at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships at the age of 29 and she won almost all of her international tournaments in the previous two and half years. Kazakhstan had only one female Olympian boxer in Tokyo, Nadezhda Ryabets who can compete for her homeland once again in a big event. ASBC Asian Champions as Alua Balkybekova and Fariza Sholtay, furthermore a previous bronze medallist, Karina Ibragimova all have strong potentials in the upcoming IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
