Following his youth successes, Omar Livaza secures his first elite final at the Nurmagambetov Tournament

Following the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships and the Elorda Cup, the next event in Kazakhstan is the Nurmagambetov Tournament which turned into its final phase in the city of Almaty.

The boxing competition was held to perpetuate the memory of the General of the Army Mr. Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich Nurmagambetov. The Chairman of the Sports Committee Head of the Central Sports Club of the Army of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mrs. Olga Shishigina, the former Olympic Champion hurdler in track and field athletics, was also responsible for the competition.

The male boxers are competing for the medals from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in the new edition of the Nurmagambetov Tournament. Altogether 149 boxers are attending in the competition from strong nations such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Kyrgyzstan’s Adilet Kachkynbekov is not a well-known boxer in the international stage yet but the bantamweight (54kg) talent exceeded all of the expectations in the day of the semi-finals when he eliminated Uslan Seksenbayev, a former youth national team member from Kazakhstan.

The lightweight (60kg) is a non-Olympic category but the competition is strong in Almaty between several young hopes. Tajikistan’s Akmal Ubaidov defeated a more experienced rival, Kazakhstan’s Alimzhan Beskempir and he will now meet for the title Nurislam Kaldybayev from the Turkestan region.

Kyrgyzstan’s Omar Livaza claimed a silver medal at the 2021 Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the 20-year-old light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer is now a finalist at the Nurmagambetov Tournament. He controlled all of the three rounds against Nurlybek Usmanov which means that Almas Nurgali, another local boxer will be his final opponent.

The final of the light middleweight (71kg) will be held between Kazakhstan’s Nurzhan Amangeldi and Uzbekistan’s Bekjon Makhmudov which could be an anticipated fight on the last competition day. One of the promising Kazakh middleweight (75kg) boxers, Farrukh Tokhtasynov dominated his semi-final in Almaty and he is also a finalist.

Nursultan Amanzholov proved his very best in the semi-finals of the super heavyweight (+92kg) and he stopped his opponent, Almiri Anarbayev who also trains in the Dzhambul region. The experienced Amanzholov will plan to take the title of the heaviest weight class against Meirbek Mukhtarov of Akmola region.
