Exhibitions, other activities mark International Boxing Day in Bhutan
The Bhutan Boxing Federation hosted various activities including exhibition bouts to celebrate the International Boxing Day last August 27.
Mass demonstrations, combat shows and Zumba dance sessions were held in the capital city of Thimpu, with officials from the Bhutan National Olympic Committee, Royal Bhutan Army and other national sports federations supporting the festivities.
The boxing federation also handed equipment care of the International Boxing Association (IBA) over to different boxing clubs.
Commemorating its legendary boxers while appreciating the efforts of its current standouts, Bhutan marked the International Boxing Day for the very first time.
Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) president Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira commended the Bhutan Boxing Federation for coming up with initiatives to join the observance of the special day for the sport despite challenges.
More than 50 countries across the world including other Asian nations Pakistan, Kazakhstan, India, Iran and Qatar conducted their own projects in celebration of the International Boxing Day.
Moved from July 22 to August 27 last year, the dedicated day for the sweet science coincides with the inaugural staging of the World Boxing Championships in Havana, Cuba back in 1974.
