Exciting finals at the 16th Indonesian National Student Games with close results
The 16th Indonesian National Student Games, or shortly called XVI Popnas, was held in the city of Palembang in the previous days. Seven female and nine youth male boxers earned their gold medals in the National Student Games. The finals have been decided only by 3:2 split decisions in the smallest five men’s weight classes in the Games.
Palembang is one of the busiest cities in Sumatra and it hosted the boxing event of the Southeast Asian Games in 2011. Altogether 64 women and 88 men boxers competed for the medals in the island of Sumatra at the Indonesian National Student Games. The youth boxers who were born in 2005 and in 2006, were eligible to participate in the National Student Games.
The first winner of the competition was Linda Sari Langi Malillin of DKI Jakarta at the busy women’s minimumweight (48kg) where twelve girls competed for the title. A local boxer, Roza Linda Sari defeated a strong hope from the capital city, Miranda Makaronggala at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).
DKI Jakarta’s next sensation, Marion Manuesa Simorangkir was born in a boxing family and she had was able to beat all of her four opponents in the Games including her final opponent, Sally Rahmawati. Angela Christy Pattinama was also made a remarkable performance during the competition and she had the stamina to beat her main rivals as Ratu Nasyawaa Salsabil and Papua’s Faleri Kabuare.
The male boxers were able to compete in nine categories and top quality of boxing has been recognized in Palembang, especially in the smaller weight classes. Marceilo Surati invested all of his power to beat Canro David Beckam Situmorang in the final of the men’s minimumweight (48kg) but he succeeded in that contest.
West Java’s Febrian Alfares Makalanis was also wonderful in his final at the flyweight (51kg), he defeated Bali’s Jeklin Ndawajepi by 3:2 split decision. Lionel Efraim Silalahi had also a crucial final battle at the bantamweight (54kg), he needed his last drop of energies to beat Abdul Halim Arafit for the title.
Abdal Jabil Camis won the fourth male weight class in the same way in Palembang, he had a close final against David Saleh Hasibuan beating his rival 3:2. Gilbert Natanael Surati worked hard to win the lightweight (60kg) while Laskar Putra had the advantage in physical conditions and punching power to take the title of the light welterweight (63.5kg) against Reonald Dwi Hadinata.
Indonesia is planning to send its team to the upcoming Asian Games and the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.
