Endang and Darmawan shocked their top rivals in the Indonesian National Games on Day5

The boxing tournament of the great multisport event the Indonesian National Games continued with 21 quarter-final contests in the city of Bandung which is located in Eastern Jawa and is the country’s main boxing event in 2016.
Further medals are revealed in the competition, the winners in the Women’s Light Flyweight class (48 kg), Women’s Bantamweight class (54 kg), Women’s Lightweight class (60 kg), Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg), Men’s Bantamweight class (56 kg) and Men’s Heavyweight class (91 kg) are guaranteed medallists in the Games.
The National Games is holding for both genders and it is also a selection competition for the further international big events in the beginning of the new Tokyo 2020 Olympic era. After the selection events for the Indonesian National Games 175 boxers can take part in the competition in Bandung.
Beatrichx Suguro is the highest ranked Indonesian woman boxer who is competing at the Light Flyweight class (48 kg) in the National Games. She tried to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Flyweight class (51 kg) but those experiences were excellent for the young talent. Suguro was too strong for Warni Halawa in the first preliminary round and prepared well against such a dangerous opponent as Maluku Governor Cup winner 20-year-old Endang. Suguro should have been used her international experiences but she could not deliver her previous performance and lost to her younger rival which was a big sensation in the Indonesian National Games.
Merlin Tomatala was an unknown boxer before the Indonesian National Games but she is now a guaranteed medallist at the Women’s Light Flyweight class (48 kg) following her surprise success over Papua’s Selly Wanimbo who has been boxing in the international level since 2008. Indonesian national team member Angelina Niis and National Champion Apriliani Tombeg also advanced to the last four in the same weight class and kept their chances to win the gold medal.
National Golden Gloves winner Norbertha Tajum competed for Indonesia at the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Jeju and arrived to the National Games as a gold medal contender. She eliminated her main rival at the Women’s Bantamweight class (54 kg) Southeast Asian Games bronze medallist Esther Kalayukin in the first preliminary round and continued her winning path against veteran Indri Sambaimana while Maria Ohoiulun, Diandra Pieters and Yamina Babinga all advanced to the last four in Bandung.
2015 Maluku Women’s Governor Cup winner Juliana Patty of Maluku moved up to the Lightweight class (60 kg) before the start of the National Games and the talented lady proved her speed in the quarter-final against Weny Sasnita. Besides to Juliana Patty, Wasti Hiskinda and another Maluku Governor Cup winner Huswatun Hasanah also advanced to the semi-finals in this weight class.
Indonesia’s best man boxer ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kornelis Kwangu Langu of Bali dominated his preliminary contest against Maluku Governor Cup silver medallist Prasetyo in the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg) and did not give any chance to his second rival Busman Halim in the quarter-finals. Bali’s pride advanced to the last four of the weight class and he needs only two further successful steps to be crowned in the Indonesian National Games.
A young talent at the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg) Wawan Darmawan also did a sensational result in the fifth competition day when he eliminated President’s Cup winner Mario Kali who is also a national team boxer. Strong Indonesian National Golden Gloves Tournament gold medallist Ferdinand B. Kase and former AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Irfan Tentonda are also in the semi-finals of the division.
Apniel Daniel fought for Indonesia in a few international events and the Bantamweight class (56 kg) boxer was in different level than Andre Amanupunyo. Following Daniel’s lethal punches the referee confirmed his KO success in the first round of their quarter-final. Dadan Amanda won several titles in the Indonesian National Championships and he had also a quick success in the quarter-final over Decky Entamoy while Julius Lumoly and Atris Neolaka also advanced to the last four.
Muhammad Yunus Pane is the main favourite for the gold medal at the Heavyweight class (91 kg) who competed for Indonesia at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games. The experienced boxer defeated Papua’s veteran Zemba Ronsumbre who claimed silver medal in the Indonesian Western Region Tournament in Ambon.
