Elnur Suyunbay defeated the ASBC Asian Junior Champion at the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships

The twenty-two exciting semi-final contests have been held in the sixth session of the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships which continued in the city of Almaty. Several dream finals realized in the national event where Elnur Suyunbay remained his chance alive to defend his throne.

All of the eleven categories from the pinweight (46kg) to the super heavyweight (+91kg) were in action in the sixth competition day at the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships. The winners advanced to the finals of the national event in each weight category.

Boxers who were born in 2003 and in 2004 are eligible to attend in the first national event of the year. The event is preparation and selection before the main international goals of the year including the upcoming AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in Kielce, Poland on April 10-24.

Muratuly and Tashkenbay advanced to the finals of the light flyweight (49kg)

Almaty region’s Kenzhe Muratuly defeated three opponents by large margin of differences in the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships and he has done his fourth challenge successfully in the day of the semi-finals. The 17-year-old boxer eliminated Kyzyl-Orda region’s Bakbergen Tursynbai in the last four and he can prepare to his final against Nur-Sultan’s Sanzhar Tashkenbay who bowed out Mangystau region’s Agazhan Kadir in the second semi-final of the light flyweight (49kg).

Zhumabayev and Aldamzharov can box for the title at the flyweight (52kg)

Shymkent’s Zhandos Zhumabayev was born in 2003 and following his junior experiences, he has done a superb job at the Youth National Championships. He had to box against a dangerous rival, Pavlodar region’s Gabbas Dyusekenov but he managed his success in the first semi-final of the flyweight (52kg). Aktau region’s Emil Zhechev Junior Memorial Tournament silver medallist 17-year-old Bekzat Aldamzharov was too experienced for Pavlodar region’s Berik Temirzhanov who arrived from a boxing family.

Konysbay and Abdikarim proved their talents once again at the bantamweight (56kg)

Atyrau region’s Bekzat Konysbay had a tough quarter-final against Shymkent’s pride Asylbek Abdizhappar but following that success, he proved better performance against Dzhambul region’s Bekzat Pryali and advanced to the final of the bantamweight (56kg) in Almaty. As expected, his final opponent will be Turkestan region’s Abdygalym Abdikarim who controlled his semi-final bout against Ali Rakhymzhan of Akmola region.

Suyunbay eliminated the ASBC Asian Junior Champion at the lightweight (60kg)

Dzhambul region’s next boxer, Elnur Suyunbay arrived to the event as titleholder of the lightweight (60kg). He had a tough battle against Karagandy region’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Yermek who moved up to the lightweight (60kg) in the recent months. Suyunbay was slightly better in the exchanges and advanced to the final of the event which means he remained his chance to defend his throne alive. His final opponent will be ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Ruslan Kuzeubayev who walked over to the final of the national event.

Satzhanov and Serik are the finalists at the light welterweight (64kg)

East Kazakhstan region’s Bauyrzhan Satzhanov won his first international tournaments in 2018 and proved strong developments in the recent days. Satzhanov, who will be turning to 18 later this year, walked over to the final of the light welterweight (64kg) following his opponent, Almaty’s Abylai Sman was unable to box against him on Day6. ASBC Asian Junior Champion Abzal Serik of Shymkent had to fight in the semi-finals but he won all of the rounds against Aybol Asylkhan of Dzhambul region.

Sultan Babakhanov and Ilyar Ashirov stopped their semi-final opponents

Dzhambul region’s Sultan Babakhanov is one of the biggest boxing hopes of Kazakhstan who remained unbeaten in 2019 and won the title of the Fujairah ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. The 17-year-old top star moved up to the middleweight (75kg) but his strength decided all of his contests including the semi-final against Ernar Dosymbek. Almaty’s Ilyar Ashirov has got strong junior results also and he was member of the national team in several international events. Ashirov dominated his semi-final against Rakhymzhan Shanzharkhan and the referee stopped their bout in the third round.
