Dusmatov, Mirzakhmedov triumph in Zolotarev joust
Veteran boxers Hasanboy Dusmatov and Nodirjon Mirzakhmedov emerged atop their respective weight divisions in the 16th Valentin Zolotarev Memorial Tournament held recently in the city of Andizhan.
The 29-year-old Dusmatov, who is a Rio Olympics champion, two-time ASBC Asian winner and World Championships silver finisher, finally regained his top form a year after his national team return as he clobbered Foziljon Abdumurodov, 5-0, for the flyweight (51kg) title.
Fellow two-time Asian titlist Mirzakhmedov came through with a 4-1 victory over Kamronbek Mannobov to seize the minimumweight (48kg) gold medal.
Meanwhile, reigning ASBC Asian U22 champs Ruslan Abdullayev and Javlonbek Yuldashev crushed their opponents to reign supreme in the light welterweight (63.5kg) and welterweight (67kg) classes, respectively.
Defending Asian elite champion Saidjamshid Jafarov (middle-75kg), world bronze medalist Madiyar Saidrakhimov (heavy-92kg) and former Asian youth titlist Lazizbek Mullajonov (super heavy-+92kg) proved to be the other remarkable winners.
Several strong fighters from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran and Tajikistan joined the Uzbek standouts in the traditional tournament.
This year’s Zolotarev tilt served as one of the final selections of the participating federations for the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 set on October 30 to November 13 in Amman, Jordan.
