Dusmatov and Jalolov won their first Asian Games titles making their collection full

Uzbekistan was the team of the last session in the Asian Games in Hangzhou today, their Hasanboy Dusmatov and Bakhodir Jalolov finally reached gold medals in this multisport event as well.

Chinese Taipei’s female team is world-class and their male boxers made also a breakthrough with their two Olympic quotas in this Asian Games. Lin Yu Ting, the two-time World Champion, earned a bronze in the last edition five years ago, which she upgraded into gold in Hangzhou. Chinese Taipei’s pride won all of the three rounds in each scorecard against Kazakhstan’s reigning Asian Champion Karina Ibragimova and took the title of the women’s featherweight (57kg) in the Games.

China’s Yang Liu eliminated her main rival, Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien Chin in the battle of the World Champions yesterday. Following that hard semi-final, she started slowly in the final against Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng but the 31-year-old Chinese found the best fighting distance in the second round. Yang Liu used her longer reach to stop the Thai attacks and she was able to beat the powerful Suwannapheng in their repeat match after the Women’s World Boxing Championships.

Uzbekistan’s star Hasanboy Dusmatov was only quarter-finalist in the 2014 Incheon and silver medallist at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. The Olympic Champion had the full focus and motivation to earn his first Asian Games gold medal in the men’s flyweight (51kg). The 30-year-old Uzbek defeated Thailand’s Thitisan Panmot one time during his career which was a very hectic battle between them in Amman one year ago. Dusmatov controlled the bout this time and he earned Uzbekistan’s first boxing gold medal in the Asian Games.

Uzbekistan’s next top athlete in action was Abdumalik Khalokov who won all of his contests in the major championships since November 2021. The World and ASBC Champion Uzbek did not underestimate Japan’s surprise at the featherweight (57kg), Shudai Harada and he dominated the first round easily with his tricky style of boxing. Khalokov proved his strength is now also in different level and stopped the 22-year-old Japanese boxer in the second round of their final.

China’s World silver medallist Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan was their second male finalist boxer in this Asian Games but he looked nervous in the first round against Philippines’ star, Eumir Felix Marcial. The Olympic Games bronze medallist Filipino was effective in the exchanges in the first round and all of the judges favoured him after three minutes. The 27-year-old Chinese made an outstanding U-turn in the second round and his efforts were enough to turn back this final bout. Uzbekistan’s third finalist in the last competition day was the Olympic Games winner Bakhodir Jalolov who met Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev of the Asian Games. The Uzbek and the Kazakh fought each other several times in the recent six years and mostly in the finals of the big championships. Jalolov, who is unbeaten also in professional boxing, controlled the first round with heavy shots but Kunkabayev was competitive today in the second and third periods. Jalolov won their final by 4:0 points decision and he earned his first ever Asian Games gold medal during his career.
