The Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament starts on February 3
The first big men’s elite event of 2016 in the Asian continent will be the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Kyrgyzstan. The annual Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan between 3-7 February which is a tradition the event starts the new year for the Asian men boxers.
Duisenkul Shopokov was the hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The tournament was named after him and the current competition will be the 40th edition in Bishkek where twelve nations registered to take part in the strong international event.
Kyrgyzstan selected 50 elite men boxers to take part in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in the front of the home crowd. Kyrgyzstan’s No.1 ASBC Asian Champion Azat Usenaliev has been preparing to the AIBA Asian & Oceania Qualifiers with full speed and has got good chance to win the event in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan’s Middleweight class (75 kg) boxer Azamat Kanybek Uulu has got illness and had to miss the event who will be the host nation’s lone athlete who won’t be there in the start of the event.
Among the top nations such as Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia and China also will be sending teams to Bishkek. Among the region’s further nations such as Tajikistan and Turkmenistan both will be also there in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament with their best boxers.
Algeria’s Abdelkader Chadi and Ilyas Abbadi both have already qualified to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but both decided to start their preparation in Kyrgyzstan. The Algerian delegation contains maximum number of ten boxers while Iraq’s five boxers have already arrived to Bishkek and trains with the Kyrgyz boxing team.
United Arab Emirates registered eight boxers to the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament and this will be their first participation in the event. United Arab Emirates never sent such a big delegation in the elite level to an important and strong international event such as the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament.
