DPR Korea is back on track and won two contests in Budva today

The DPR Koreans returned to the under elite competitions at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro today and both of their boxers made successful starts.

Afghanistan, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Palestine, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the participating 13 Asian nations in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Altogether 73 nations and 593 boxers are participating in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva.

DPR Korea did not compete any of the youth competitions in the recent six years but the country returned to this level in Budva. Their Rim So Su looked quicker in the exchanges than Turkey’s Zeynep Sena Comart and despite she was smaller, she controlled the bout from longer range therefore DPR Korea returned to the events with a victory.

Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva bagged only a bronze medal in the annual ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships but she impressed in her opener against Russia’s Milana Dzugayeva and she joined the next stage of boxing at the women’s light welterweight (63kg). 

China’s Song Bowen had a good technician start in the first round against Romania’s Nicolas Antonio Chivu but his European opponent came back to the contest in the second. Song mobilized all of his power in the third and he eliminated the Romanian at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Budva where Tajikistan’s Meroj Sufijonov also made a successful debut against Albania’s Stiven Xixi.

DPR Korea’s second boxer in action was Ri Hyok at the men’s featherweight (57kg) but she spent a short time in the ring against Hong Kong’s Leung Ka Ho. The 18-year-old Ri used an aggressive style of boxing and after the third standing counts the Turkish referee stopped their preliminary contest.

Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadaziz Ismoilov eliminated Spain’s tall Jose Luis Saez in a highly intense and tight bout at the light middleweight (71kg). The next Uzbek boxer was more clear in the attacks therefore Akmaljon Isroilov had the unanimous success against Poland’s Alan Figura at the cruiserweight (86kg).

Kazakhstan’s defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion at the lightweight (60kg), Aleksey Khavantsev was untouchable for Kyrgyzstan’s Alikhan Mairanbekov and he dominated all of the three rounds. Afghanistan’s Sayed Mokhtar Azimi delivered a small surprise in the second session of the day and he eliminated Lithuania’s Nojus Stanisauskas in the same weight class. 

Uzbekistan’s Akbar Ahmadov looked better in the first exchanges than Venezuela’s Anfernee Pacheco and he decided their contest very quickly in the opening round. The 18-year-old Uzbek welterweight (67kg) boxer knocked out the South American and he delivered the first classic KO in the championship.  

Kyrgyzstan’s Mukhammadaziz Zakirov was confident in the first round against Venezuela’s Jhosber Michelena and all of the judges favoured him after three minutes. The Kyrgyz light heavyweight (80kg) boxer increased his rhythm in the second and almost knocked out the Venezuelan who survived these dangerous moments.

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Tolganay Kassymkhan was 10cm smaller than Venezuela’s Youli Mena but she had the speed to reduce the fighting distance successfully in the first round. The 17-year-old Kazakh, who joined the youth age group only this January, controlled all of the three rounds to win their preliminary bout. China’s Wu Yuting won the next contest in this weight class, she was faster than Germany’s Enie Sophie Lux.

Uzbekistan’s Abdulaziz Jurakulov won the annual Bornemissza Memorial Tournament in Hungary this year and he received the right to compete in a main championship for the first time. The Uzbek light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer was dominant against French Polynesia’s Atger Kailoa while Iran’s Asian Youth Champion Amir Esmaeili won the last battle of the day by RSC.
