Afghanistan’s new woman boxer Diana Nadim will be representing the country in Qianan

Afghanistan Boxing Federation found a great woman boxer in Europe who has got Afghan roots and decided to fight for the Asian nation in the upcoming Olympic qualification events in Qianan and in Astana. Afghanistan’s new Lightweight class (60 kg) boxer Diana Nadim trains in Denmark since her childhood but now she will be fighting for the Asian country to get any Olympic spot to Rio de Janeiro.
Diana Nadim was born in 1990 and began boxing at the age of 14 in the city of Aarhus in Denmark while she was involved to the Danish national team in 2007 at the age of 17 when she claimed god medal in their Junior National Championships and also in her first ever international competition at the Pirkka Tournament in Finland.
The year of 2007 was very important for the Danish Boxing as one of their city Vejle hosted the EUBC European Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships and Diana Nadim was involved to the squad short after her 17th birthday. She won her opening bout against Norway’s Renate Medby and only Sweden’s top boxer Shipra Nilsson was able to stop her in the quarter-finals in Vejle.
Diana Nadim’s best result is a gold medal for the 2008 EUBC European Confederation Women’s Youth Boxing Championships which was held in Yambol, Bulgaria and where she defeated Romanian, Russian and Bulgarian boxers at the age of 18 in the year when she won all of her international bouts.
Diana Nadim joined back to the elite competitions and attended in two further editions of the EUBC European Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Nikolayev, Ukraine and in Rotterdam, Denmark but she was eliminated by top boxers in the quarter-finals therefore the expected medal has missed on both events. She attended in several other international elite competitions and raised her experiences in the last Olympic era.
Nadim won the region’s main international event the Nordic Championships two-times in her career and she also competed in the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Qinhuangdao where she represented Denmark and lost to only Finland’s star Mira Potkonen. Her last international boxing event was the Queen’s Cup in Stralsund, Germany in 2013 but she decided to return before the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Diana Nadim will be competing in the upcoming AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qianan, China where she is focusing to get a quota for Afghanistan but her job will be really hard as Asia has got such a great boxers at the Lightweight class (60 kg) like China’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games winner Yin Junhua, Tajikistan’s London 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist Mavzuna Chorieva and India’s former AIBA Women’s World Champion Sarita Devi Laishram.
