A total of 149 boxers (95 men and 54 women) enlisted for the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships. Mrs. Karina Picson of the Philippines is working as the Technical Delegate and Green Hill is serving as the official sports equipment partner.
Here are the highlights from Day 1:
Reigning Asian Elite Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan emerged as the first winner in the second edition of the ASBC Asian U22 Championships.
The 19-year-old Tashkenbay proved too strong for Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev as the former youth world and Asian titlist posted a resounding 5-0 triumph in their minimumweight (48kg) match.
Fellow Kazakh standout and World Championships silver finisher Makhmud Sabyrkhan also pulled off an easy 5-0 victory against Uzbekistan’s Asian youth bronze medalist Mirzabek Mirzakhalilov in featherweight (57kg).
Jericho Acaylar of the Philippines won his first bout in featherweight after beating Tajikistan’s Khusravkhon Rakhimov, 4-1, but fellow Filipino bet Mervin Lucky Alcober lost to Mongolia’s Asian Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Enkhtur Tegshjargal in lightweight (60kg) via the same scoreline.
Asian medalist Abubakr Murodzoda of Tajikistan routed Yang Ming of China, 5-0, in lightweight while Indra Bahadur Sunar of Nepal walloped Souksakhone Phoumsavane of Laos, 5-0, in featherweight.
Nepal’s new hope competed at the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Amman on March 2022 and despite he is newcomer in the U22 national team, he eliminated the Southeast Asian opponent. “That was a good fight, my opponent from Laos was taller than me but I managed to find the way to land my shots. There is a huge difference between youth and U22 boxing but I started the championships with a triumph and this is so amazing,” said Nepal’s teenage hope, Indra Bahadur Sunar after the contest.
