Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 9 (Men’s Semifinals)

The ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 men’s semifinals produced 26 fiery bouts on November 10 in Amman, Jordan.

Kazakhstan emerged with nine boxers in the gold medal round, while defending men’s champion Uzbekistan secured at least seven silvers and host Jordan guaranteed three.

Thailand has two finalists even as India, Japan, Mongolia and Philippines have one apiece.

Here are some highlights from Day 9:

Kazakhstan’s Saken Bibossynov came through with a 5-0 romp over his main rival Tomoya Tsuboi of Japan in a battle of reigning world champions in the flyweight (51kg) division.

Bibossynov set up a highly-anticipated final match against Rio Olympics 2016 gold medalist Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan, who inched closer to his third Asian elite gold after a methodical 5-0 win over Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu.

Another Uzbek star in Saidjamshid Jafarov got a chance to defend his middleweight (75kg) title after a 5-0 decimation of India’s Sumit.

Jordan’s top pug Zeyad Eshaish continued his scorching run as the Asian Games bronze finisher crushed Kyrgyzstan’s Asian youth winner Nuradin Rustambek Uulu, 5-0, in the light middleweight (71kg) class.

India’s Shiva Thapa, who holds the record of having the most Asian Elite medals at six, pulled off a 4-1 decision against Tajikistan’s 2019 champion Bakhodur Usmonov in light welterweight (63.5kg).

Philippines’ Tokyo Olympics silver finisher Carlo Paalam put on a clinical performance for a 5-0 victory at the expense of Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhai Seidakmatov in bantamweight (54kg).

Asian U22 silver winner Kazuma Aratake of Japan trounced Zohaib Rasheed of Pakistan, 5-0, to enter the minimumweight (48kg) final versus Kazakhstan’s reigning Youth World Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay, who eliminated India’s Govind Kumar Sahani with a 4-0 win.

Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Bunjong Sinsiri of Thailand dethroned Mongolia’s two-time Olympian Chinzorig Baatarsukh via a 4-1 triumph in welterweight (67kg).

Mongolia’s Buyandalai Bayarkhuu turned back Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov, 4-1, and advanced to the lightweight (60kg) gold medal bout.
