Daily Report on 2022 Asian Elite Championships Amman, Jordan – Day 7

The third and final part of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2022 quarterfinals saw 28 intense matches on November 7 in Amman, Jordan.

With at least four bronze medals secured, host country Jordan has already earned its highest number of medals in a single edition of the continental tournament. Iran and Vietnam, meanwhile, barged into the medal table.

As of now, 15 out of the 27 participating nations including Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzystan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan have already guaranteed a medal in this year’s Asian Elite Championships.

A rest day is scheduled on November 8 and the competition will resume with the semifinals on November 9 and 10.

Here are some highlights from Day 7:

After stunning Japan’s world champion Sewon Okazawa, Jordan’s top fighter Zeyad Eshaish remained on fire as the 24-year-old decimated Turkmenistan’s Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov, 5-0, in the men’s light middleweight (71kg) division to deliver the host’s second medal.

Fellow hometown heroes Hussein Iashaish (light heavy-80kg) and Odai Riyad Al-Hindawi (cruiser-86kg) followed suit and disposed of their respective foes to make it a historic four-medal haul for Jordan.

Iran’s two-time Asian elite bronze winner Seyed Shahin Mousavi secured his country’s first medal of the tournament after smothering Muhammetmyrat Sahedov of Turkmenistan, 5-0, in the middleweight (75kg) class.

Vietnam’s 2017 champion Nguyen Thi Tam also gave her nation its maiden medal in Amman with a 5-0 shocker over No. 1 seed and world bronze finisher Aziza Yokubova of Uzbekistan in women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Kazakhstan’s former two-time world titlist and reigning Asian champ Nazym Kyzaibay beat Mongolia’s Balsan Mungunsaran via split decision and set up a women’s light flyweight semifinal clash against Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki.

Namiki, a world bronze medalist in 2018, seized her country’s seventh medal in the ongoing tourney after dominating Turkmenistan’s Rukhafzo Khaknazarova, 5-0.

Two-time Asian elite bronze medalist Erkin Adylbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan stepped up in the decisive third round to eke out a slim 3-2 win at the expense of Iran’s Pouria Amiri in men’s cruiserweight.

Kazakhstan’s Youth Olympics 2018 gold winner Aibek Oralbay came through with a lopsided 5-0 triumph over Naveen Kumar of India in heavyweight (92kg). Uzbekistan’s former Asian youth champ Lazizbek Mullojonov kept his undefeated streak alive as he demolished Ali Alqreeb of Kuwait, 5-0, in super heavyweight (+92kg).
