Cuteness overloaded – Chinese Taipei’s Su Hsin Yu delighted the venue in the historic schoolgirls debut
The schoolgirls began their historic competition in the Asian Championships and among them Chinese Taipei’s Su Hsin Yu delighted the whole venue with her performance and personality.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the participating 26 nations in the event.
The 2008 and 2009 born boxers will be able to compete at the junior age group in Al Ain, UAE. Boxers who were born in 2010 and in 2011 will be eligible to participate in the schoolboys and schoolgirls competition.
Kazakhstan’s Takhmina Almasbek and Sri Lanka’s Kawindi Hetthiya Shihasna opened the afternoon session of the fourth competition day in Al Ain. The Sri Lankan was taller than her Kazakh opponent but she was not enough fast on feet to avoid the Kazakh attacks in this 37kg weight class meeting therefore Almasbek advanced to the next stage of boxing.
The next bout was also held between Kazakhstan in Sri Lanka among the schoolgirls, Milana Inshina met Arachchilage Weerasingha at the 40kg weight class. The physical skills and their height were very similar but Inshina was better in their exchanges and she had the advantage on the scorecards. The referee counted the Sri Lankan in the second round and Inshina’s dominance continued but Weerasingha was able to keep fighting until the last gong.
India’s Rakhi used her aggressive style of boxing against Mongolia’s Maralmaa Ganzorig and she landed the stronger shots in their meeting at the schoolgirls 43kg weight class. Chinese Taipei’s Su Yin Hsi decided the next bout in this category so quickly, she stopped Kyrgyzstan’s Faiza Teshebayeva in the first round which was an emotional success for her. Ukraine’s Veronika Holub also won her contest by a quick stoppage against Sri Lanka’s Malsha Harappant Kushani.
Kyrgyzstan’s Akmaral Amantayeva surprised her Kazakh opponent, Nuraiym Kudaybergen in the first round with her effective shots, great footwork and nice technical skills. The referee stopped the bout in the second round and confirmed the Kazakh boxer’s victory but Amantayeva is a big prospect in our sport. Mongolia’s Anujim Munkhtur won the next 49kg bout against Vietnam’s Dinh Thi Ru Na with excellent performance.
Kateryna Smolkina had some difficulties in the first round against India’s Mandisha Sahu but she received the right instruction in the break and from the second she found the best distance and opportunities to land her effective shots. Following Smolkina’s points decision success and U-turn, her teammate, Asia Tkachenko faced Thailand’s Rujira Sriphonthong and she won the first and third rounds to join the next stage at the 52kg weight class.
Tajikistan’s Anushervon Sidigov and India’s Robash Meitei Ningthoukhom were the first boxers among the schoolboys today. The 13-year-old Tajik ruled the middle of the ring, he wanted the win so much and he landed the better shots especially in the last 15 seconds of the first and second rounds. Sidigov had the massive advantage on the scorecards but he continued in the same way in the third round to secure his place in the next round of the 33kg weight class.
Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Rozumbayev trains in the new Bakhodir Jalolov Boxing Academy and he proved his extraordinary talent in his opener among the schoolboys 33kg weight class. The 14-year-old Uzbek talent overcame Kyrgyzstan’s Sanzhar Aibashbekov in the exchanges in the first round and he was able to keep the same strong performance until the last gong.
Jordan’s Ali Bani Yaseen won the first bout of the entire championships three days ago and he boxed for the guaranteed medal with Kyrgyzstan’s Tashkul Amangeldiyev at the 35kg weight class. Yaseen had excellent attacks in the first round and he felt the distance but Amangeldiyev switched into a higher tempo and he won this important quarter-final bout therefore the Kyrgyz will now meet Kazakhstan’s Abylai Dossymbekov next.
Uzbekistan’s Yakhyo Komilov stopped a Mongolian rival in the Round of 16 at the schoolboys 35kg weight class and the 14-year-old boy was able to win his second contest in Al Ain but he had to do his very best against India’s Aditya Mehra. Komilov will be boxing for the place in the final with Tajikistan’s Dilshod Sidzhayev who walked over to the semi-finals due to his opponent from Bhutan, Leki Dorji was unable to box against him today.
