Crucial battles in several weight categories at the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships

Thirty-six quarter-final contests have been held in the fifth session of the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships which continued in the city of Almaty. The flyweight (52kg), the lightweight (60kg) and the light welterweight (64kg) saw the best contests in Almaty where the winners are guaranteed medallists.

The boxers at the pinweight (46kg), light flyweight (49kg), flyweight (52kg), bantamweight (56kg), at the lightweight (60kg), at the light welterweight (64kg), at the welterweight (69kg), at the middleweight (75kg) and at the light heavyweight (81kg) were in action in the fifth competition day at the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships. The winners advanced to the quarter-finals of the national event in each weight category.

Boxers who were born in 2003 and in 2004 are eligible to attend in the first national event of the year. The event is preparation and selection before the main international goals of the year including the upcoming AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships which is scheduled to be held in Kielce, Poland on April 10-24.

Dyusekenov, Aldamzharov and Temirzhanov advanced to the semi-finals at the flyweight (52kg)

Akmola region’s Daniyar Shabanbayev caused a big surprise in the third day of boxing but he was defeated by Pavlodar region’s Gabbas Dyusekenov in the quarter-finals of the flyweight (52kg). The further favourites such as Aktau region’s Bekzat Aldamzharov and Pavlodar region’s Berik Temirzhanov both advanced to the semi-finals in this crucial weight category. Aldamzharov defeated Erkhan Abbas while Temirzhanov was too smart for Didar Turebekov of Karagandy region.

Konysbay and Abdikarim joined to the last four at the bantamweight (56kg)

The bantamweight (56kg) have got several favourites in the Kazakhstan Youth National Championships, all of the semi-finalists are strong future hopes of the country. Atyrau region’s Bekzat Konysbay won two rounds against Shymkent’s pride Asylbek Abdizhappar and his efforts were enough to remain his gold medal chances alive in Almaty. Turkestan region’s Abdygalym Abdikarim had a tough battle against Mukhammed Urash but he managed to win it by split decision.

Yermek, Suyunbay, Sagyn and Kuzeubayev are the semi-finalists at the lightweight (60kg)

Karagandy region’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Yermek moved up to the lightweight (60kg) but he had the technical superiority to beat Akbar Bisarev. Dzhambul region’s Elnur Suyunbay is another gold medal contender at the lightweight (60kg) who stopped Bekezhan Zhenis on Day5. ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Ruslan Kuzeubayev and another experienced boxer Arman Sagyn of Turkestan region advanced to the semi-finals.   

The favourites as Satzhanov and Serik remained their chances alive to win the light welterweight (64kg)

Altair Nurashev won two contests at the light welterweight (64kg) but in the quarter-finals he was stopped by Almaty’s Abylai Sman. Bauyrzhan Satzhanov won several international junior events in the previous years, therefore he was too experienced for Shymkent’s Nurlybek Uzenbayev. ASBC Asian Junior Champion Abzal Serik of Shymkent stopped all of his opponents in the previous stages and he won his quarter-final over Ayan Dembolsynov by RSC again.

Sultan Babakhanov and Ilyar Ashirov continued their strong performance at the middleweight (75kg)  

Almaty’s Ilyar Ashirov has got strong junior results and as a youth boxer, he impressed in the quarter-finals of the middleweight (75kg) thrashing Ramazan Kenzhebekov in the national event. Dzhambul region’s Sultan Babakhanov won all of his national and international contests as a junior boxer in 2019. Following three international tournament titles, he won the gold medal at the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships with strong dominancy over all of his opponents. He stopped his next opponent, Erbol Bozgul of Kyzyl-Orda region in the quarter-finals of this weight category.
