Criztian Russu Laurente leads the Filipino squad in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships
Criztian Russu Laurente leads the host Filipino squad in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships which will be starting in Puerto Princesa on August 1. Four Filipino boxers will be there in the start of the event but all of them are top athletes who have got chance to win their weight classes in the island of Palawan.
Puerto Princesa hosted the 2004 edition of the Asian Boxing Championships which was a qualification event for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and boxing returns to the city after 13 years of hiatus. Philippines hosted also the 2013 edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships with success.
The southpaw boxer Kenneth De La Pena will be representing the country at the pinweight (46kg) in Puerto Princesa. He began boxing only two and half years ago but has been training 24 hours in a week to reach the top level of the best athletes. He claimed silver medals in the national events but proved even better and smarter performances therefore Mr. Ronald Chavez, the head coach of the team has selected him.
Criztian Russu Laurente has got strong family connections to boxing, his elder brother Criztian Pitt was the Best Asian Junior Boxer of the Year in 2016. Russu won six national titles already in spite of the fact he is only 15 currently and he had 150 bouts during his career which he began in 2008. The most experienced Filipino junior boxer is the main gold medal contender of the light flyweight (48kg).
Southpaw John Vincent Pangga is only 15 but he has got also enough experiences to be a favourite in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. Pangga, who has got a twin brother boxer, won four national titles during his career and worked hard to prepare well to the home event. He trained in Thailand in the last phase of the preparations and did sparring against tough opponents.
Norlan Petecio was also born in 2002 as John Ian Pangga and came from a boxing family as his teammates. His elder sister is Nesthy Petecio who claimed silver medal in the 2014 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Norlan is a tall boxer at the lightweight (60kg) who has got strong potentials in the future and the event will be more than a good experience for him in Puerto Princesa.
