The competitors arrived to Indonesia from four different continents as Asia, America, Europe and Oceania also registered to send teams to Labuan Bajo. The host Indonesians will be competing in the President’s Cup with three different female and male teams which could be another selection among them for the later actions.
In the opening bout of the whole Indonesian President’s Cup a local boxer Yeffri Hitarihun impressed at the male flyweight (52kg) in spite of his low number of international contests. The Indonesian hope was slightly better against South Korea’s Kang Dae Ha after six minutes of fight but he landed seriously tough punches in the third round. The referee stopped their contest before the final gong and confirmed Hitarihun’s RSC triumph.
India’s Ananta Prashad Chopade is not an experienced boxer in the international stage yet but he attended in several national competitions where he raised his experiences. The Indian flyweight (52kg) boxer delivered one of the main sensations of Day1 with his unexpected success over Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games winner Aldoms Suguro. Indonesia’s B team member Muhamad Fahmi dominated the first round against Pakistan’s Akbar Khan and stopped his South Asian opponent in the second.
Australia’s new lightweight (60kg) talent is Orion Brown who surprised several of his teammates in the recent national events. Brown, who has been competing in their National Championships since 2015, was smarter than India’s Harivans Tawari and the young Aussie was able to keep his level until the end of the final gong.
Vietnam’s Nguyen Manh Cuong has been preparing to the Southeast Asian Games South and during his road to this multisport event he defeated Korea’s Kim Chi Oh in the first preliminary round of men’s middleweight (75kg).
