Chinese Taipei selected eight-strong team to the Asian Games

The management in Chinese Taipei selected the squad for the Asian Games and following the decision, eight strong boxers including four girls will be able to represent the country in Hangzhou, China this September.

Chinese Taipei earned two bronze medals in the last Jakarta 2018 edition but since then their team became much stronger and experienced. The women’s and men’s boxers from Chinese Taipei competed in all of the major championships in the recent one year and the team spent its time mostly in training camps in the recent weeks.

Their coaches Mr. Ko Wen Ming, Mr. Tseng Tzu Chiang, Mr. Liu Chung Tai, and a former top national boxer Mr. Lo Shang Che led the training sessions in South Korea, in China, in Japan and in Chinese Taipei as well.

The Olympic Games bronze medallist and the two-times World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen is the star of the women’s bantamweight (54kg). Her teammate, Lin Yu Ting earned gold medals in the 2018, 2022 Women’s World Boxing Championships and she is one of the top boxers at the featherweight (57kg) together with Kazakhstan’s Karina Ibragimova, India’s Parveen Hooda and China’s Xu Zichun.

The Tokyo Olympian Wu Shih Yi earned a silver medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and she developed rapidly at the lightweight (60kg). Chen Nien Chin is a Women’s World Champion, ASBC Asian Champion who moved down to the welterweight (66kg) and she could be one of the gold medal contenders in Hangzhou.

Chinese Taipei’s most promising male boxer, Tu Po Wei was quarter-finalist at the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent and he has 10 years of international experience. A younger hope, Lee Cheng Wei was selected to represent Chinese Taipei at the men’s featherweight (57kg).

The Rio Olympian Lai Chu En earned a historic bronze medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in Amman and he has the technical skills to beat top rivals as well. Kan Chia Wei joined the national team in 2016 and he competed in all of the major championships during his career excluding the Olympic Games.
