China shined in an ASBC event once again

China shined in a big after several issues and restrictions which affected the country in the previous three years. One of the top boxing powers which has an outstanding woman team is back on track after the break and the country earned finally four silver and one bronze medals in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok.

Their last participation in the Asian continent was at the Ulaanbaatar 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships but their talents are attending at the current ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok. China not only participates in the U22 event but the country has finalists in the championships as well.

China competed at the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman on March 2020, then only at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Their boxers returned to the international events at the Elorda Cup in Kazakhstan, Kuwait International Boxing Tournament and the USA International Invitational Tournament in 2022 but their real comeback is the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships.

China sent a new female team to the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and among them the 19-year-old Tang Dashuang was the first who had the chance to join the finals in Bangkok. Tang had a short advantage in the first round against Mongolia’s Altanbek Khulan but her smaller opponent increased her tempo in the next stage. The Chinese boxer had the right responses to the Mongolian attacks and she used her distance well enough to win this flyweight (52kg) semi-final contest and finally she claimed a silver medal in Bangkok.

Her teammate, Feng Guiyin was quicker than Indonesia’s Nabila Maharani at the bantamweight (54kg) and she became China’s second female finalist in Thailand’s capital. The Indonesian boxer was competitive in that semi-final but Feng found the best distance and she deserved to win the contest. In the absence of their best U22 female boxer, the Elite National Champion Hu Meiyi, the country had two women finalists and both were near to beat their top rivals.

Halimulati Rehemandu caused one of the main sensations at the men’s part of the competition, the Xinjiang-based boxer eliminated Thailand’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Weerapon Jongjoho in the quarter-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg). The 22-year-old Chinese boxer marched also into the finals following his easy success over Tajikistan’s Shakhboz Khaitov and lost to only the eventual winner and reigning ASBC Asian U22 Champion Uzbek talent. His teammate, Aizihaer Tuohongdaji was also finalist in Bangkok, he defeated his Kyrgyz semi-final opponent at the super heavyweight (+92kg) and lost to the Uzbek star, Jakhongir Zokirov in the final.

The management of the Chinese Boxing Federation is planning to send out their boxers to more international championships and tournaments in 2023 and will host also the Asian Games in the end of September.
