Caytuna and Zaynidinov were brilliant at the featherweight today

Philippines’ Wyndel Caytuna and Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zaynidinov amazed in the afternoon session of the third competition day ASBC Asian Junior & Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Al Ain.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are the participating 26 nations in the event.

The 2008 and 2009 born boxers will be able to compete at the junior age group in Al Ain, UAE. Boxers who were born in 2010 and in 2011 will be eligible to participate in the schoolboys and schoolgirls competition.

Philippines’ Wyndel Caytuna is one of their new junior national team members who had a great start against Qatar’s Abdulaziz Abdullatef who proved his progress under the leadership with a Cuban coach but the Filipino marched into the quarter-finals. Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Zaynidinov impressed in the Children of Asia Games and his outstanding technical skills was a shocking experience for Mongolia’s Baatar Enkhjargal in the next featherweight (57kg) contest of the afternoon session.

Chinese Taipei’s Lai Kuan Min controlled the first round against Palestine’s Islam Odeh in their featherweight (57kg) meeting and he had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards. Lai was taller than his opponent and he used that well in the first and second rounds to build up a massive lead after four minutes of fight. Chinese Taipei had some successes in the previous sessions in Al Ain and Lai Kuan Min continued their winning series.

Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Akbisenov and his neighbouring rival in Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan’s Kutmanbiy Muratov made a great show in the next featherweight (57kg) contest in Al Ain. The Kazakh landed punches in the first round effectively but Muratov caught Akbisenov with a heavy shot in the second therefore the final result was depended on their performance in the third. Both gave in everything until the last seconds but based on his final efforts, Muratov moved to the quarter-finals.

Tajikistan’s Abubakr Azizov is a new face in their junior national team and he tried to reduce the fighting distance against Sri Lanka’s Arachchige Ranasinghe in the Round of 16 battle at the featherweight (57kg). Azizov dictated the tempo against the tall and talented Sri Lankan boxer and he won the first and second rounds and he could save some fuel for the later actions.

Amanollah Sahak was Afghanistan’s first ever medallist in a World event, he achieved a junior bronze in Yerevan last November. The England-based Sahak had a tight advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two minutes but Ukraine’s Vladyslav Zheleznov found the best distance in the second round. Sahak is Afghanistan’s best prospect for the future but the 16-year-old talent lost to his Ukrainian opponent today.

Iran’s Mohammad Safar Beiranvand had longer reach than Palestine’s Adam Shehabi but he moved forward more from and felt the distance from the first seconds. The Iranian lightweight (60kg) boxer was excellent in the first and second rounds when he built up a strong advantage to go through to the quarter-finals in Al Ain.

Mongolia’s Junior National Champion Tengis Amarjargal and Jordan’s Hamam Abu Hamam had very similar number of shots in the first round in their lightweight (60kg) meeting. Jordan produced very tall boxers in the junior and youth age groups and their Abu Hamam tried to keep his Mongolian opponent on long. Amarjargal stepped into the gas in the second round and the referee had to count the Jordanian two-times which delivered unanimous decision success for the Mongolian boxer.

The referee stopped the contests in the last two preliminary bouts of the afternoon session, firstly Tajikistan’s Akhmadshokh Khoshimov was too strong for Nepal’s Sherap Gelchen Sherpa at the lightweight (60kg). Secondly, Kyrgyzstan’s multiple National Champion at the heavyweight (+80kg), Islombek Gulomiddinov stopped Tajikistan’s Alisher Dadaboyev in the second round.
