Bektenov and Osmonov impressed in the preliminaries at the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships
The Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships is a running event besides to many of the Asian national competitions in our present days. Kyrgyzstan’s young hope Rysbek Bektenov and FISU University World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Temirlan Osmonov opened their campaigns successfully in Bishkek.
The number of the boxers is 55 in the competition and eleven champions will be crowned in the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships. The welterweight (69kg) is the most crowded division with the participation of 13 boxers in Bishkek. The female boxers also joined to the competition which shows Kyrgyzstan’s efforts to develop women’s boxing.
The Kyrgyz elite and youth national teams trained in the Issyk-Kul region of the country in the recent weeks which mountainous area is famous of its health and sport benefits. The Issyk-Kul is one of the most famous lakes in the Central Asian region which had picturesque mountain views. The Kyrgyz national team prepares to the next goals especially the next edition of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships and the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Event.
Rysbek Bektenov is a 19-year-old Kyrgyz talent who claimed silver medal in the last edition of the Elite National Championships. The light welterweight (63kg) boxer is a strong talent who developed rapidly in the recent one and half year due to his excellent attitude to the sport. Bektenov opened his campaign against Kalmyrza Tursunbek Uulu and eliminated his experienced rival in Bishkek.
FISU University World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Temirlan Osmonov has been fighting to reach the A squad of the Kyrgyz national team. The 27-year-old boxer moved up to the welterweight (69kg) to achieve his main objectives and dominated his first contest against Aziret Raiymbekov. Alibek Myrzabek Uulu caused the surprise of the weight category when he eliminated Youth National Champion Aidar Oroskulov who claimed bronze medal at the Puerto Princesa 2017 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships.
Former AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Adilet Batyraliev could be the star of the middleweight (75kg) who eliminated Aibek Sherkulov in his opening bout. Among the stars of Kyrgyzstan’s boxing life Rio 2016 Olympian Erkin Adylbek Uulu is also attending in the Bishkek City Open Boxing Championships as the favourite for the gold medal at the light heavyweight (81kg) but he has to meet in the last four with ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu. Kyrgyzstan’s next event, the National Elite Boxing Championships is also scheduled and will be held still this year. That competition will be a selection tournament for the World Olympic Boxing Qualification Event which is scheduled to be held on June 2021.
