Batyrkhan Seitenov won the battles of the 19-year-old talents at the Kostanay Coaches Tournament

Kazakhstan’s Batyrkhan Seitenov defeated Uzbekistan’s Abdulaziz Abdurakhmonov and he won the battle of the 19-year-old Asian Champions in the finals of the Kostanay Coaches Memorial Tournament.

Boxers who were born between 1984 and 2005 were eligible to attend in the Kostanay Coaches Tournament. The competition staged in all of the 13 male weight categories from the minimumweight (48kg) up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Kostanay.

The Kostanay Coaches Tournament is an elite competition for the elite men boxers dedicated for the honoured trainers of the USSR and KazSSR. The competition remembers to Mr. Valeriy Nikulin, Mr. Vadim Gravitskiy, Mr. Mursal Tazhmakin, Mr. Vitaliy Levshin, Mr. Anton Kim and Mr. Sergey Skripnik.

Ali Toktarov claimed the first gold medal at the Kostanay Coaches Tournament, the Astana-based boxers defeated both of his top rivals, Mukhammad Sotvoldiyev and his teammate, Rinat Maksutov at the minimumweight (48kg).

Pavlodar region’s 19-year-old Islam Mashkentayev not only defeated Astana’s Akhmet Azizov in the fourth competition day during the semi-finals but he captured the title after beating a local boy, Arman Tokmagambet at the bantamweight (54kg).

Kostanay region’s first gold medal was achieved by Zhanibek Sherbayev who had a unanimous success over Alikhan Akpanbayev at the featherweight (57kg). Uzbekistan sent a young team to Kostanay and among them Ilkhom Ergashev succeeded against Yersultan Bitugan of Kazakhstan at the lightweight (60kg).

Kazakhstan’s former Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Yermek and his teammate, Bekzat Makzhan both returned to the international events after a break. Their light welterweight (63.5kg) final was one of the best ones in the entire tournament and surprisingly Makzhan was able to beat his opponent by 2:1 split decision.

Madiyar Taipakov, an ASBC Asian Junior medallist, joined the elite age group this January and the 19-year-old talent made a successful debut with a gold medal at the welterweight (67kg). One of the next Uzbek youngsters, Bakhrom Davronov made an excellent finish against Kazakhstan’s Alikhan Zhakupov and he won the middleweight (75kg).

Artem Pchelyakov trains in the Kostanay region and he defeated all of his opponents to take the light heavyweight (80kg) title on home soil. Astana’s Islam Betayev had a very difficult contest against the 19-year-old Viktor Litvinov in the last four but he triumphed over Germany’s Kadu Kaidy in the final.  

A former Asian Schoolboy Champion, Batyrkhan Seitenov proved his development and the 19-year-old heavyweight (92kg) talent defeated a top boxer, Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Youth Champion Abdulaziz Abdurakhmonov in Kostanay.
