Bakhodir Jalolov is on the way to defend his super heavyweight throne
Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov advanced to the final of the men’s super heavyweight (+92kg) and he has the chance to defend his throne which he achieved in Tokyo three year ago.
Thirteen weight categories, 248 top boxers, 124 female and 124 male athletes from 69 nations will compete in the boxing event of the Paris Olympics.
Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, China, Chinese Taipei, India, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Jordan, Mongolia, South Korea, DPR Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan and Palestine will have boxers in the Olympic Games from the Asian continent.
Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu Ting is one of the most experienced female boxers in the whole world and she used her distance well enough against Turkey’s Esra Yildiz Kahraman in the semi-final of the women’s featherweight (57kg). Lin showed her best performance in this contest and her longer hands were decisive in this semi-final bout which mean that Chinese Taipei has its first ever Olympic final place.
Philippines’ veteran star Nesthy Petecio knew the atmosphere of an Olympic Games and she used those experiences well in the Paris edition. She had a few motivational issues in 2022 after the Tokyo Olympics but she prepared seriously strong for this Olympics but she received strong punches from Julia Szeremeta and earned only a bronze medal in Paris.
Uzbekistan’s Olympic Games winner Bakhodir Jalolov eliminated one of his main rivals, the Australian giant, Teremoana Junior Teremoana in the quarter-finals and he used his longer reach successfully against a European Champion, Germany’s Nelvie Tiafack. Jalolov was better in all aspects of boxing than his German opponent and he managed his path to his second Olympic final after Tokyo.
Kazakhstan’s lone finalist, the defending World Champion of the light heavyweight (80kg) faced Ukraine’s No.1 Oleksandr Khyzhniak in a very specific final bout. The Ukrainian was slightly better in the exchanges in the first round but Oralbay adopted the huge tempo and his hooks were effective in the second. Khyzhniak landed more shots in the third round and after his silver in Tokyo, he changed that into a gold but Oralbay’s silver medal is one of his main achievements.
