Bahrain head coach Davis leads 2-day course in Riffa
Bahrain national boxing team head coach and technical development manager Tony Davis recently spearheaded a two-day Level 1 coaching course at the Aldoy International Sports & Martial Arts Centre in Riffa.
Davis, a former member of the Great Britain coaching staff, imparted his expertise in the sweet science to national team members, former boxers and young trainers who joined the educational event.
The project, organized by the Bahrain Boxing Federation as part of its grassroots program which started way back in 2018, drew 36 aspiring boxing coaches.
With Davis at the helm since 2019, Bahrain made some remarkable achievements in the combat sport.
The Western Asian country produced its first-ever Olympic boxer in Denys Latypov who competed in the super heavyweight (92+kg) division of the Tokyo Summer Games last year.
Bahrain also earned its historic first medal in the ASBC Asian Youth Championships courtesy of Sayed Fadhel Abbas Abdulla who took bronze in the 2021 edition in Dubai.
Bahrain’s youth standouts will join a tournament in Germany as part of their preparations for the IBA Youth Men’s & Women’s World Championships in November while the senior bets will participate in the ASBC Asian Elite Championships 2022 on Oct. 30-Nov. 13 in Amman, Jordan.
