Bader Osman Samreen writes history for Jordan in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships where 20 Asian boxers won on Day6
The AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships continued with its sixth competition day in Budapest in two sessions today. Altogether 44 bouts were held on Day6 and the Asian boxers achieved incredible 20 victories in the Hungarian capital. Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Philippines and India shined but Jordan’s Bader Samreen has done a historical success and he is already a guaranteed medallist.
India’s Bhavesh Kattimani claimed bronze medals in the 2017 Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships and also in the 2018 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. Following his performance in the quarter-finals his bronze is already in the bag again as the 17-year-old Indian flyweight (52kg) boxer was enough strong to eliminate Morocco’s Badr Berhili today.
Philippines’ ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Criztian Pitt Laurente had to face with an Asian hope in the quarter-final Iran’s Daniyal Shakhbakhsh. The Filipino bantamweight (56kg) boxer was a hard target for his Iranian rival in the first round and his tricky style amazed the crowd. The elder Laurente brother, who claimed gold medal in the Children of Asia Games in 2016 as first Filipino boxer, won their contest with his fantastic technique.
Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov is the defending ASBC Asian Youth Champion at the men’s bantamweight (56kg) who is one of the best boxers of the whole AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. He had a strong rival Brazil’s Laion Martinelli Duraes Souza but Khalokov overcame his South American rival in the attacks and this time he used his strength. The referee counted Souza in the first round twice and confirmed Khalokov’s quick RSC success in Budapest which means Asia bagged another guaranteed medal.
Thailand’s Noppharat Thakhui did not find his best fighting distance against Armenia’s Rafayel Hakobyan in the first round of the quarter-final but after the first break he received good advices in the corner. Thailand’s 17-year-old bantamweight (56kg) boxer turned up the heat in the second round and he was able to launch powerful combinations which reached the target. Thakhui claimed bronze medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and he is already in the Top4 in Budapest as well.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Nillada Meekoon used her height advantage against Ireland’s EUBC European Women’s Youth Champion powerful Daina Moorehouse and she kept her safest distance well enough. The Thai light flyweight (48kg) boxer had world class footwork in their quarter-final and following Thakhui she claimed the South Asian nation’s next medal in Budapest. Kazakhstan’s Anel Kudaibergen also defeated her rival Italy’s Giorgia Rossi and advanced to the semi-finals in Budapest.
India’ AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Women’s Youth Champion Nitu Ghanghas started her campaign in Budapest with an average performance but in the quarter-finals she delivered almost her very best. The 18-year-old Indian light flyweight (48kg) boxer had a smaller European opponent, Germany’s Maxi Kloetzer and she knew what the best weapon today is. Nitu caught her German opponent two-times in the middle of the bout and the referee confirmed her RSC triumph.
South Korea’s Kim Chae Won is a six-time National Champion at home and she worked well to beat Ecuador’s Dayanna Bone in Budapest which was a narrow fight in the sixth competition day. Following Kim’s narrow success another Asian boxer shined at the women’s flyweight (51kg) namely Thailand’s Kittiya Nampai who used her longer distance to beat Australia’s Monique Suraci in their last 16 bout.
India’s ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Anamika eliminated Bulgaria’s EUBC European Women’s Youth Champion Goryana Stoeva in the first preliminary round. She had an easier opponent as second Chinese Taipei’s Lin Ting Fang and Anamika proved her tough fighting spirit once again. The 18-year-old Indian flyweight (51kg) boxer demoralized her opponent and her RSC victory was a well-deserved one in Budapest.
Kazakhstan’s women’s youth No.1 AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Zhansaya Abdraimova is a top gold medal contender at the flyweight (51kg) who used her best fighting distance from the first seconds against Mongolia’s Mungunsaran Balsan. The Mongolian, who moved up from the light flyweight (48kg), was a strong opponent but the smaller Abdraimova was better in tactically.
Thailand’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Atichai Phoemsap had world class footwork once again against Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsutsumi in the first round of their lightweight (60kg) contest. Thailand’s youth No.1 controlled the bout from the opening seconds and his dominancy kept continuing until the final bell in Budapest. Phoemsap advanced to the semi-finals of the category and remained his gold medal chances alive.
Jordan’s Arab Youth Champion Bader Osama Samreen is their best future hope who worked well in the recent three years to reach the level of the top boxers. Jordan’s light welterweight (64kg) pride impressed in the first round against Bulgaria’s experienced Ivan Atanasov and tried to catch his European opponent with tough punches. The final verdict was split decision to Samreen which delivered Jordan’s first ever medal in an AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
Thailand’s youth team is one of the strongest in the Asian continent and their welterweight (69kg) No.1 is now a guaranteed medallist in Budapest. Two-time ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Peerapat Yeasungnoen eliminated Azerbaijan’s Nijat Hasanov in a close bout. Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Yermakhan Zhakpekov defeated Hungary’s Tibor Barbosu and Japan’s Sho Patrick Usami surprised Uzbekistan’s Jakhongir Rakhmonov which means Asia has got three medallists at the welterweight (69kg).
