Asians dominate featherweight on World Championships Day 7

Numerous Asian stars cruised to the featherweight (57kg) quarterfinals following their victories on the seventh day of the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023 at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s reigning ASBC Asian elite champion and former youth world titlist Abdumalik Khalokov crushed Australia’s Charlie Senior, 5-0, while Kazakhstan’s 2021 world silver medalist Serik Temirzhanov trounced Hungary’s Roland Veres through a similar scoreline.
India’s Asian bronze medalist Mohammed Hussamuddin routed Russia’s Eduard Savvin, 5-0, even as Tajikistan’s former junior world champion Asror Vokhidov took a narrow win against Brazil’s AMBC American winner Luiz Gabriel Oliveira Chalot after bout review.
Jordan’s Yousef Iashash and Kyrgyzstan’s Munarbek Seyitbek Uulu also emerged triumphant in the same weight class after defeating Armenia’s Artur Bazeyan and Mexico’s Miguel Vega, respectively, via the same 4-1 decision.
Over at the flyweight (51kg) division, India’s Deepak pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the tournament, dethroning Kazakhstan’s top seed Saken Bibossynov with a slim win following a review of their contest.
Chinese Taipei’s Tu Po Wei also made a surprise after claiming a split decision victory over Colombia’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medalist Yuberjen Martinez.
Japan’s Tomoya Tsuboi, who moved down to flyweight after taking the bantamweight gold in Belgrade, used his speed to post a 4-1 result against Russia’s Vasiliy Egorov.
Uzbekistan’s Olympic winner Hasanboy Dusmatov, Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod, Mongolia’s Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu and China’s Zhang Jiamao also advanced in the flyweight division.
In the middleweight (75kg) category, Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 champion Alokhon Abdullayev thrashed China’s Zhao Mengyang, 5-0; Iran’s Tokyo Olympian Seyed Shahin Mousavi subdued Turkey’s Sultan Osmanli, 5-0; Kazakhstan’s Nurkanat Raiys destroyed Dominican Republic’s Virgilio De Los Santos, 5-0; and Syria’s Ahmad Ghossoun eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chia Hsin, 5-0.
In super heavyweight (+92kg), Uzbekistan’s Olympic champ Bakhodir Jalolov stopped Australia’s Teremoana in the second round of their fight before Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev smashed Syria’s Mohamed Moulayes, 5-0. China’s new sensation Danabieke Bayikewuzi tallied his third win after getting a 4-1 decision against Egypt’s Rezk Mostafa Hafez Yousry.
