Asian stars see action in Strandja Memorial Tournament
Several decorated Asian boxers are out to compete in the 74th Strandja Memorial Tournament that drew nearly 400 boxers in Sofia, Bulgaria on February 20-26.
World champion, Tokyo Olympics winner and three-time ASBC Asian elite gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov headline the Uzbekistan team that also boast of stars Hasanboy Dusmatov, Abdumalik Khalakov, Saidjamshid Jafarov and Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov.
The Uzbekistan Boxing Federation is looking to prepare its top fighters for the IBA Men’s World Championships set to be held in their capital city of Tashkent in May.
Kazakhstan also has a strong delegation spearheaded by former world titlist Bekzad Nurdauletov and two-time world silver medalist Kamshybek Kunkabayev.
Tokyo Olympics silver winners Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam banner the Philippines while ex-women’s world champion Li Qian leads China in the event.
National team mainstays and rising young talents represent India that is gearing up for the IBA Women’s World Championships which it will host in New Delhi next month.
Formidable fighters across the five confederations slug it out in this year’s edition of the oldest international boxing tournament in Europe as they get ready for the upcoming World Championships.
The tourney features all the official 13 weight categories for elite men and 12 for elite women boxers.
