Asian Junior Champions succeeded at the Utkirbek Khaydarov Prizes Youth Tournament in Andizhan

Uzbekistan arranged their next competition, the Utkirbek Khaydarov Prizes Youth Tournament which was held in their sport city, in Andizhan. The ASBC Asian Junior Champions shined in the competition which was the next selection meeting for them in this youth age group.

Altogether 124 young boxers competed in the five-days long tournament from the 2006 and 2007 born talents. Uzbekistan will be competing in the upcoming Youth World Boxing Championships with their best possible line-ups in the end of October and the Khaydarov Tournament supported their active preparations.

Mr. Utkirbek Khaydarov was Uzbekistan’s legendary boxer who competed for the country in several top events between 1994 and 2005. He claimed a bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, gold at the 1999 World Boxing Championships and double gold in 2002 at the Asian Games and at the Asian Boxing Championships.

Sayfiddin Sobirov won the Uzbek Youth National Championships in January, he repeated that performance in the Khaydarov Youth Tournament as well, and he defeated Amirbek Shamshiyev on their repeat final at the minimumweight (48kg).

Tashkent’s Abdulaziz Abdunazarov, the representative at the last edition of the Junior World Boxing Championships, won the next category after beating Mukhammadali Mannobov at the flyweight (51kg) final.

Sardorbek Khamdamov moved up from the flyweight (51kg) to the bantamweight (54kg) and surprisingly he was able to beat a more experienced international boxer, Mukhammadaziz Kuldashaliyev in the final.

Imron Nurullayev lost his Round of 16 bout at the recent Uzbek Youth National Championships but the Andizhan-based boxer defeated all of his rivals at the featherweight (57kg), including Javokhirbek Farkhodjonov in the final.

Following the Youth Nationals bronze medallist Farkhodjon Ismoilov’s success at the lightweight (60kg), two Ergashevs met for the title of the light welterweight (63.5kg). The Junior World medallist Shakhbozbek Ergashev won that meeting against Tashkent region’s Ilkhom Ergashev.

Khikmatullo Ulmasov claimed a silver medal at the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships in Yerevan and the 17-year-old boxer proved his potential among the youth boxers in Andizhan where he bagged the title of the welterweight (67kg).

Jasurbek Olimjonov, the bronze medallist from the Uzbek Youth Nationals, moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) successfully to win the title in Andizhan. Rakhmonjon Kodirov, the 2022 ASBC Asian Junior Champion, had a superb success over another youth national team member, Norbek Abdullayev of Khorezm at the light heavyweight (80kg).

Another ASBC Asian Junior Champion from 2022, Temurbek Abduvakhobov dominated the cruiserweight (86kg) in the event. Mukhammadrizo Siddikov joined the youth age group this January but the 17-year-old Ferghana-based boxer defeated Mukhammadrizo Alijonov in the heavyweight (92kg) final.

Ozodbek Aliyev claimed a gold medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships but he was knocked out in the recent Uzbek Youth Nationals. The 18-year-old boxer moved up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) and his speed decided the final against Alisher Sodikov of Bukhara.
