Asian champs advance to Youth World quarters

Six Asian youth champions crushed their respective foes to zoom into the quarterfinals of the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships 2022 on November 20 at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano in La Nucia, Spain.

Uzbekistan’s reigning ASBC youth men titlists Fazliddin Erkinboyev, Rakhmatullo Boymatov and Aynazar Kenesbayev clobbered separate opponents in their weight divisions.

Erkinboyev thrashed India’s Sahil Chauhan, 5-0, in light middleweight (71kg); Boymatov destroyed Albania’s Luis Gjolena, 5-0, in light heavyweight (80kg); and Kenesbayev trounced  Ireland’s David Joseph McDonagh, 5-0, in heavyweight (92kg).

Defending Asian youth women’s featherweight (57kg) champ Ulzhan Sarsenbek sustained her furious run with a 5-0 demolition of Czech Republic’s Kristyna Cajanova.

Her fellow Kazakh star and ASBC gold medalist Bakyt Seidish smothered India’s Mahak Sharma, 5-0, in the women’s welterweight (66kg) class.

India’s 2021 Asian youth winner Preeti Dahiya smashed Finland’s Teresa Maekinen, 5-0, and arranged an exciting quarterfinal bout against Germany’s European youth champion Asya Ari in women’s featherweight.

Meanwhile, Japan’s female bets Aki Yamazaki (feather) and Miyu Suzuki (fly-52kg) as well as Thailand’s male standout Thananchai Phoemsap (light middle) also won on Day 6 of competition.

The quarterfinals of the Youth World Championships are set on November 21 and 22.
