ASBC President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira led the 2nd Board of Directors Meeting in Phuket
Following Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira has been elected as ASBC President, the Board of Directors set up in the Asian Boxing Confederation’s Extraordinary Congress in Amman, on March 12. Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira used the opportunity to host the first Board of Directors Meeting still in Amman after the elections, which was followed the second consecutive board meeting in the Angsana Laguna Phuket Resort.
“It was a happy coincidence that we were holding the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in our world-famous resort island of Phuket so I took the occasion to issue the invitation to the board members to hold our next meeting here and also the top officials of all the Asian Boxing Confederations to come and watch the elite tournament,” Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira bared.
Ten of the twelve ASBC Board members were able to make the trip and had a productive meeting where important decisions made in Phuket. President Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira of Thailand, Mrs. Khitam Ay of Jordan, Ms. Rasha Mohamed Alkhamis of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Aziz Kozhambetov of Kazakhstan, Mr. Sophoan Buy of Cambodia, Mr. Mohamed Saleh Al-Jaberi of UAE, Mr. Ali Takleef Shaheed of Iraq, Mr. Hossein Souri of Iran, Mr. Adnan Bin Ali of Kuwait and Mr. Dian Gomes of Sri Lanka attended in the second Board Meeting.
The highlight was the election of ASBC Vice-President, Mr. Aziz Kozhambetov of Kazakhstan, a former ASBC Executive Director. Also appointed by Mr. Chunhavajira, a prominent Thai businessman-sportsman, were the members of the ASBC Council, which will make decisions on urgent matters between board meetings. Aside from the ASBC President, the members will be Vice-President Mr. Aziz Kozhambetov of Kazakhstan, and three members as Mr. Dian Gomes of Sri Lanka, Mr. Ali Takleef Shaheed of Iraq and Ms. Rasha Mohamed Alkhamis of Saudi Arabia.
The ASBC President also announced he will make other major appointments for Legal Counsel, Financial Adviser and External Auditor in the next few days, for board approval. ASBC Secretary General Mr. Ali Salameh of the United Arab Emirates made a PowerPoint presentation on the current situation as well as future plans of the Confederation.
He also revealed the 2022 calendar which will include the ASBC Asian Schoolboys and Schoolgirls Boxing Championships which the Iranian Boxing Confederation has offered to host in Teheran in August. The Iranian Boxing Federation hosted its last ASBC Championships for the youth boxers in 2010.
The ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, originally scheduled for June 2022, was moved to November, in consideration of the proximity of the Asian Games which will be held this year in September. A host city has yet to be determined for the tournament. There is also the ASBC Grand Slam Boxing Tournament in China which is being considered for December of this year.
Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira announced that a new ASBC office has been reserved in a prime location in Bangkok’s Central District. It will serve as the headquarters of the Asian Boxing Confederation for the next four years.
