ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba sends his best wishes to the Myanmar Boxing Federation on their Independence Day
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation and Vice-President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore and the whole ASBC management are sending their best wishes to the Myanmar Boxing Federation and their whole Boxing Family on their Independence Day.
The Independence Day is a national holiday observed annually in Myanmar every 4th of January. Myanmar’s Declaration of Independence celebrates the born of the new country Burma from the British rule in 1948. Burma became a separately administered colony of Great Britain in 1937 and received its full independence on 4 January in 1948 named Union of Burma. The country is not member of the British Commonwealth as many of the previous colonies and overseas territories.
The Myanmar Independence Day is a public holiday in the country and usually celebrates with fairs, sport activities, concerts and cultural programs to strengthen the identity of the population. The name of the country officially changed from Union of Burma to Union of Myanmar in 1988.
As one of its boxing highlights, Myanmar hosted the 2013 edition of the Southeast Asian Games where their women and men boxers won two gold medals. Myanmar prepared well to the last edition of the Southeast Asian Games which was held in the Philippines on December 2019 and where their boxers claimed a few medals as well.
The best female and male boxers from Myanmar competed in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand on July 2019. Myanmar competed also in the Belt & Road China-ASEAN Boxing Championships in Guangxi on October 2019 which was their next international preparation event. Myanmar arranged its last National Championships in 2019 and the country hopes that their boxers can return to the international stage in 2021.
