ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba sends his best wishes to the Iraqi Boxing Federation on their Independence Day
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore the whole ASBC management are sending their best wishes to the Iraqi Boxing Federation on their official Independence Day.
The national holiday in Iraq is always celebrated on 3 October which is also known as National Iraqi Day. The Independence Day marks Iraq’s separation and full independence from Great Britain which conquered the area from the Ottoman Empire during the World War I. The British declared Iraq’s full independence on 3rd of October in 1932 which began a new era in the Kingdom of Iraq and became the 57th member of the League of Nations.
This day is the establishment of the State of Iraq which is among the first Arabic countries to gain independence. The Iraqi Independence Day is a public holiday and due to the celebrations through the country, the schools, shops and most of the businesses are closed on 3rd of October.
Boxing was born in the area of Iraq around 5,000 years ago and the country joined to the Olympic Games in the modern era in 1960. Since then the Iraqi boxers attended or qualified in the Olympic Games nine-times last time in the Rio de Janeiro edition where Waheed Abderredha Waheed Karaawi (75kg) represented the country. Iraq reached its best results in the 1980s when some of their boxers reached the quarter-finals in major championships and Ali Khalil Salman won the Asian Boxing Championships three-times.
The Iraqi Boxing Federation has got long term projects to reach even better results in the upcoming years. Iraq claimed medals in the 2019 edition of the ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City and in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Mongolia.
The President of the Iraqi Boxing Federation Mr. Ali Takleef joined to the ASBC Fund & Development Commission Meeting in Tashkent this April and after that he followed both of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai this year. The Iraqi boxers impressed in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships where the country claimed two silver and three bronze medals.
The ASBC management wishes all the best to the Iraqi Boxing Family and great prosperity to achieve their goals in the upcoming international events. Iraq hosted also two of their National Boxing Championships already this year and their leadership is ready to continue the same pathway in 2022.
