ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba sends his best wishes to the Brunei Boxing Association on their 38th National Day
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Anas Alotaiba, furthermore, the whole ASBC management and our Asian Boxing Family are sending their best wishes to the Brunei Boxing Association on their National Day. Brunei gained its independence in January 1984 but the country kept the full control on its area in the end of February.
Brunei is celebrating its 38th National Day this year which is a nationwide public holiday in the country. Brunei gained its full independence from the United Kingdom in 1984 and following the impressive economic growth in the 1990s and 2000s, the Sultanate became one of the richest countries of the Southeast Asian region.
The largest program will feature in Bandar Seri Begawan with a parade in the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. Rehearsals will also take place at the side on several days and smaller gatherings will likely occur in the other regions of the country.
The events during the National Day will be even smaller than in the previous years due to the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus. The officials increased the health checks at event locations and other possible crowded places to prevent the spread of the virus and they will follow all safety measures.
Brunei competed in the 2003 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Bangkok, in the one edition of the Commonwealth Games and several Southeast Asian Games in the ‘90s and in the beginning of the last decade. Brunei re-started their national events and its daily work in 2017 and arranged several regional competitions in the previous years. The Brunei Boxing Association returned to the Asian map in 2017 and hosted its first international event in 2018 which was a great success and achievement of the country. Following their first Interclub Tournament in 2019, the next competition was held in Brunei to increase the experience of the boxers a few months later. Brunei hosted a national tournament in June 2021 and their management is planning to re-launch all of their boxing activities in 2022 following the hard period.
