ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba congratulates to Ismail Khalel Salmaan Karwi who is member of the AIBA Champions and Veterans Committee
The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the whole ASBC management congratulates to Iraq’s most successful boxer in the country’s history Mr. Ismail Khalel Salmaan Karwi who has been appointed as a new member at the AIBA Champions and Veterans Committee.
Iraq’s golden era in boxing was in the second part of the 1970s and the 1980s when the country achieved Asian titles, medals in several big continental events. Ismail Khalel Salmaan Karwi joined to the national team in 1980, competed in two Olympic Games and continued his international career until 1992.
Ismail Khalel Salmaan Karwi advanced to the final of the heavyweight (91kg) in the New Delhi 1982 Asian Games and achieved silver medal, delivering the best result for Iraq in the multisport event. He achieved bronze medal in the 1981 AIBA World Cup in Canada and claimed gold medal at the 1985 Pan Arab Games in Casablanca, Morocco.
Iraq’s best boxer Ismail Khalel Salmaan Karwi won the Asian Boxing Championships three-times in 1983, in 1985 and in finally in 1989. He claimed bronze medal in 1980 and won his first continental title in the Nara 1983 Asian Boxing Championships. Iraq’s No.1 defended his throne in Bangkok in 1985 and won his third Asian title in the 1989 Beijing edition. He won his last gold medal in 1989 at the super heavyweight (+91kg)
