ASBC medalist Anarbayev seals podium finish in Aitenov youth tournament

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Championships featherweight (57kg) bronze winner Bakhtiyar Anarbayev came through with a 5-0 drubbing of Dmitriy Zolotkov in the quarterfinals of the 22nd Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in the Kazakh city of Kostanay last Friday.

With the one-sided victory, the 17-year-old Anarbayev sealed at least a bronze medal anew and arranged a semifinal bout against Uzbekistan’s Zabardast Hayotov, who also put up a 5-0 domination over Tolebek Sakhiyev of Kazakhstan.

Over at the bantamweight (54kg class), Kazakhstan locked a medal sweep after Almat Abduali, Aktilek Orynbasar, Zhanbolat Sarsenbayev and Aslan Aslanov all barged into the semis.

Meanwhile, Asian medalists Abdurakhim Yokubov of Tajikistan and Madjiyar Taipakov of Kazakhstan failed to secure a podium finish as they suffered shocking defeats in the light welterweight (63.5kg) category on the third day of the tournament.

Former Asian junior champion and Asian Youth 2022 silver finisher Yokubov yielded to Kazakhstan’s Nurlybek Uzenboev, 1-4, while 2021 bronze winner Taipakov absorbed a 0-5 loss to Uzbekistan’s Husan Turdaliev. The Aitenov Brothers tilt, a youth men’s international event sanctioned by the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation, is part of the attending national teams’ preparations for the IBA Youth Men’s & Women’s World Boxing Championships scheduled to take place on November 5-20 in La Nucia-Benidorm, Spain.
