Preeti Dahiya was born in Fateh Nagar on June 16 in 2004 and started her boxing career at the age of 12. Her coach is Mahendra Singh Dhaka and the young talent trains 20 hours every week to accomplish her goals. Dahiya was silver medallist at the 2018 Indian Women’s School National Games but she remained almost unbeaten next year when she joined to the junior boxers. The 15-year-old Indian won the Junior National Championships, the Black Forest Cup in Germany and the Junior Women’s Nations Cup in Serbia before the Fujairah event.
India’s Preeti Dahiya impressed in the preparation events of the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. She eliminated already her main rival in the semi-final of the lightweight (60kg), China’s Junior National Games winner, Chin Jengyang. The Indian had to face in the final with Uzbekistan’s Mokhira Akhmedova who made a big surprise in the semi-finals when she eliminated Kazakhstan’s Nazym Abdikhan.
The Indian was nervous in the first round of the final and the Uzbek looked more concentrated in the opening period of their final. Dahiya stepped into the gas in the second round still in time and turned back their final contest in Fujairah claiming India’s second female gold at the ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships.
