ASBC Heroes – India’s Alfiya Tarannum Pathan who is the first girl in their family who can play any sports
India’s Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan won the title of the heavyweight (+80kg) in the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships. The currently 17-year-old Indian female boxer is our ASBC Hero due to her excellent performance in Fujairah and other international and national events.
Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan was born in the city of Nagpur on February 18 in 2003 and began boxing at the age of 14 in 2017. She trains with Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur and Mr. Ganesh Purohit in the Khelo India SAI NBA in Rohtak around 28 hours per week to reach her future goals in our sport.
Alfi, which is her nickname, is a southpaw boxer, whose boxing idol is India’s national icon six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte. Pathan’s brother is also a boxer but she is the first girl from her entire family who can play any kind of sports and allowed to come out from their house. Her hobby is drawing while her favourite food is a classic Indian dish, the biryani.
Pathan attended at the Junior Women’s Nations Cup in Serbia in 2018 which was her first event out of India and claimed silver medal. Her first year among the juniors was a success, she claimed medals also in the Indian Women’s School National Games and in the Women’s Junior National Championships.
Alfiya Tarannum Akram Khan Pathan won the next edition of the Indian Women’s Junior National Championships at the heavyweight (+80kg) in 2019 after beating three strong rivals including Yashashvi in the final of the event. She returned to the Junior Women’s Nations Cup to Serbia in 2019 where she lost to eventual winner Liudmilla Vorontsova of Russia in the semi-finals of the event.
Following her national success, she was involved to the travelling team to the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships. Pathan’s final opponent was Kazakhstan’s Diana Magauyayeva in the United Arab Emirates and their battle delivered tiny differences between them. She moved forward more in the second part of their final and won the bout by split decision getting India’s fourth female gold medal in Fujairah.
