ASBC Discovery of 2017 Hussin Al-Masri wins in the Syrian National Championships

The new edition of the Syrian National Boxing Championships for the elite men boxers was taking place in Damascus which was also a selection event for the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games. Syria’s top boxers as Islamic Solidarity Games winner Hussin Al-Masri, Mohammed Deeb, Abdelmouen Aziz, Ahmad Ghossoun, Alaaldin Ghossoun and Mohammad Moulayes are all won their categories in Damascus.
Boxing is important and competitive in Syria in spite of their difficulties which are thankful to ASBC Executive Committee member and President of the Syrian Boxing Association Mr. Issa Al-Nassar and their whole boxing family. Five of the Syrian boxers advanced to the Top8 in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and their bests were able to win medals including gold in the Islamic Solidarity Games one year ago.
Altogether 13 teams and 69 elite male boxers could attend in the Syrian National Boxing Championships in 10 weight classes in Damascus. The Army Boxing Club topped the team rankings, Police Boxing Club and Latakia became second and third among the participating 13 squads in Damascus.
Army’s Hussin Al-Masri was awarded the Best Asian Discovery Boxer of the Year 2017 and following his gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games he was enough smart to win his next national title in Syria. The 26-year-old light flyweight (49kg) boxer did not give any chance to Hadi Daref in the final of the event.
Army’s Ward Ali had to meet with his main local rival Police’s Marwan Doumerieh and he was able to beat the titleholder of the flyweight (52kg) causing a surprise in the Syrian National Boxing Championships. Police Boxing Club’s first gold medal was achieved by Ali Muhammad who defeated Army’s Yamin Jneid in the final of the bantamweight (56kg).
Mohammed Deeb defeated Abdelkader Dawajee in the final of the 2017 Syrian National Boxing Championships but he lost to his opponent in the 2017 Syrian National Cup. Their rivalry at the lightweight (60kg) was continued in the new national event which was won be Mohammed Deeb this time by split decision.
Mohamed Kher Mousatat was involved to the national team in 2015 and he could be ready to win contests also in the international events next year. The Army boxer impressed in the Syrian National Boxing Championships and his previous experiences paid off when he faced with Khaled Shartah in the final of the national event.
Police Boxing Club’s veteran Abdelmouen Aziz qualified for the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships but he was not able to box in Germany. Aziz, who moved back to the welterweight (69kg) in the recent half year, eliminated Damascus International Tournament winner Khader Obaydah in the semi-final and continued his winning path against Latakia’s Laeth Mouthlij in the final.
Ahmad Ghossoun is Syria’s best boxer currently who claimed bronze medal in the 2015 edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok and silver in the 2014 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. The 22-year-old top talent moved up to the middleweight (75kg) and dominated his final against Der Alzour’s Abdullah Housaene.
Damascus International Tournament winner Yahia Taha is the current National Champion at the light heavyweight (81kg) who proved top performance against Homs’ Omran Al-Sharef in the final. Syria’s top national team member Alaaldin Ghossoun, who competed all of the important international tournaments excluding the Olympic Games, was also too strong for all of his opponents at the heavyweight (91kg).
Two-time ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Mohammad Moulayes eliminated his main rival Qais Mahfoud in the semi-final of the super heavyweight (+91kg). In the absence of Manaf Asaad the 25-year-old Army boxer did not give any chance to his final opponent Latakia’s Wessam Hasan and celebrated his next national title.
