ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships – Day4 Report
Kazakhstan is perfect after the quarter-finals in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships
The fourth competition day of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships was held in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan where the quarter-finals have finished. The forty medallists remained in the competition from 11 nations and among them Kazakhstan is the best with its 10 medals while Uzbekistan have got 9 semi-finalists and India 4.
Bantamweight class (56 kg):
Kazakhstan’s AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Serik Temirzhanov won the Serik Sapiyev Prizes Youth Tournament which was the selection event for the host nation’s squad. The 18-year-old boxer who trains in Pavlodar with coach Mr. Andrei Gensh and tried to control his quarter-final contest against India’s Muhammed Etash Khan who was a competitive rival for him. The Kazakh boxer controlled the first two rounds while the Indian talent returned in top shape in the final three minutes but it was too late to turn back their tough battle. Temirzhanov’s next opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Shunkor Abdurasulov who eliminated Thailand’s Pluem Wangkhaklang.
Kyrgyzstan’s current Youth National Champion Nursultan Mamataly proved top performance in the preliminary round but he had a tough opponent in the second semi-final where he had to meet with Philippines’ Mario Jaga who moved down from the Lightweight class (60 kg). The Kyrgyz southpaw was active in the first round and dominated the third when he knocked down his Filipino rival who could not repeat his previous strong performance. Mamataly advanced to the semi-final as second Kyrgyz boxer and will be fighting for the final with Japan’s Taiga Imanaga who eliminated China’s Zeng Jianming.
Light Welterweight class (64 kg):
Philippines’ Ranjo Gil Napoles competed in the last year’s main AIBA and ASBC junior competitions and joined to the youth age group in January. The 16-year-old Filipino boxer met with Syria’s Ammar Haidar in the quarter-final of the championships who has been training since 2009. The Filipino boxer felt the rhythm and overtook Haidar’s attacks successfully in the first and second round. The Syrian boxer moved ahead and did not use up his height advantage well enough in the bout. Napoles controlled the first two rounds but Haidar attacked successfully in the third but the Filipino boxer was able to keep the advantage until the final bell. Napoles will now meet with Kazakhstan’s Ayatulla Takizhanov who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzhan Ilichbek Uulu.
Uzbekistan’s Ziyodbek Uralov replaced their current Youth National Cup winner Abu Nuranov due an injury but he proved he is among the best Asian youth boxers in this weight class. He tried to control his bout against Turkmenistan’s Serdar Amangeldiyev who was a competitive rival for the 18-year-ol Uzbek. Uralov had more accurate punches in the second and third rounds which delivered another medal for Uzbekistan. His semi-final opponent will be India’s Ashish Kulhriya who eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Kai Yu.
Welterweight class (69 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Agalarov Youth Memorial Tournament winner Ulugbek Sobirov used his longer hands to keep the distance against Chinese Taipei’s Wu Yen Yu who won his preliminary contest in Pavlodar. The 17-year- old Andizhan-based Uzbek boxer reached Wu several times in the second round and dominated the final one as well. Sobirov proved he is gold medal favourite in Pavlodar who advanced to the semi-final where his next opponent will be Japan’s Zen Kuroyanagi who eliminated China’s Qian Xiang.
Kazakhstan’s Oleg Matveychuk replaced Sadreddin Akhmedov in the national team due an injury but he won the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial Tournament in Anapa, Russia. Almaty Region’s 18-year- old strong boxer attacked from the first seconds and his motivated boxing was enough to control the bout. The judges picked him as the winner of the bout therefore Matveychuk is now a guaranteed medallist in Pavlodar where his semi-final opponent will be Kyrgyzstan’s Aibek Akylbek Uulu who eliminated Korea’s Kang Keun Ho.
Light Heavyweight class (81 kg):
Uzbekistan’s Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament winner Sanjar Tursunov began his contest with amazing rhythm against Turkmenistan’s Mustapa Charyyev which was a re-match after the 2014 Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup. Tursunov won their contest two years ago by unanimous decision but now he was able to knock down his experienced rival several times therefore the referee confirmed TKO in the third round in their unequal contest. Tursunov’s next opponent will be China’s Xinjiang-based Maimaiti Maierdan who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Azamat Amanov in another quarter-final contest.
Kazakhstan’s Eldiyar Kamchibekov was born in 1999 but received the right to box in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar. The 17-year-old talent met with Iran’s Mehran Yousefi in the quarter-final and he was able to knock down his rival in the second and also in the third round. The Kazakh boxer dominated the last round and finally his hand was raised after the final bell in the front of the home crowd. Kamchibekov’s next opponent will be India’s Reyal Puri who defeated Korea’s ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships bronze medallist Kim Taek Min.
