APB boxer Kornelis Kwangu Langu dominated his first contest in the Indonesian National Games
The boxing tournament of the Indonesian National Games continued with 23 contests in the city of Bandung which is located in Eastern Jawa and is the country’s main boxing event in 2016. Further medals are revealed in the competition, the winners in the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg), Women’s Featherweight class (57 kg), Men’s Pinweight class (46 kg) and Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg) are guaranteed medallists in the Games.
The National Games is holding for both genders and it is also a selection competition for the further international big events in the beginning of the new Tokyo 2020 Olympic era. After the selection events for the Indonesian National Games 175 boxers can take part in the competition in Bandung. Among them 67 will be women boxers while 31 provinces can send athletes to the Games where Jawa Island has got maximum number of 16 competitors. Maluku, Papua, and Sumatera also have got big delegations in the National Games.
A talented lady, Serlin Alin Kase did a small surprise in the fourth competition day when she defeated Southeast Asian Games competitor Novita Sinadia winning all of the rounds as the scoring of 10:9 and advanced to the semi-finals in Bandung. Indonesian Women’s National Championships silver medallist Fitra Fani, Maluku Governor Cup silver medallist Erni Amalia Lestari and Jubaitul also won the guaranteed medals in the Women’s Flyweight class (51 kg) following their triumphs in the quarter-final.
Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Christina Marwan Jembay is one of the best Indonesian woman boxer who eliminated Ildawati in the quarter-final of the Women’s Featherweight class (57 kg) and secured her place in the last four. Her main rival Women’s National Champion Imaculata Loda shocked with her strength Isa Mahdina in the quarter-final and her opponent was lucky as she could box until the final bell. Jembay vs. Loda will be one of the most anticipating bout in the women part of the Indonesian National Games.
Indonesian National Golden Gloves Tournament bronze medallist Jeki Manalu lost to Indri German Hutagaol in the previous competitions but this time he was able to beat one of the main favourite of the Men’s Pinweight class (46 kg). The final verdict was split decision to the young Manalu who is now guaranteed medallist in the category. Besides to Manalu, Andi Wandira, Rocep Souhoka and Maluku Governor Cup winner Valentinus Nahak are also advanced to the semi-finals of the National Games.
Indonesia’s best man boxer ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Kornelis Kwangu Langu of Bali dominated his preliminary contest against Maluku Governor Cup silver medallist Prasetyo in the Men’s Light Flyweight class (49 kg). Besides to the APB boxer another national team member athlete President’s Cup winner Mario Kali defeated Musa Cahyadi winning the bout by unanimous decision. Ferdinand B. Kase eliminated Hisydro Safei while another favourite Irfan Tentonda was too strong for Remy Lumoly in the same weight class.
ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships competitor Farand Papendang is one of the favourite of the Men’s Lightweight class (60 kg) who proved top performance in the quarter-final against Charles Tungga winning the bout by unanimous decision. Maluku Governor Cup silver medallist Gresty Alfons, DKI’s strong boxer Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Matius Mandiangan and Gregorius of Bali also advanced to the semi-finals. 23-year-old Papendang’s main opponent for the gold medal could be Mandiangan in this weight class which will be a unique contest between the two international boxers.
